Welcome to your Netflix Streaming Report for April 28, 2016. After the long week you deserve a relaxing staycation with a bowl of popcorn, a bucket of ice cream, and only your Netflix queue to judge you. This past week, Netflix Watch Instant has been kind enough to supply us with Minions, Begin Again, Hotel Translyvania 2, and more. Also, find out what the Netflix and Chill pick of the week is and what’s leaving in May.
Minions (Kyle Balda and Pierre Coffin) Rated PG [1h 31min] – Minions Stuart, Kevin and Bob are recruited by Scarlett Overkill, a super-villain who, alongside her inventor husband Herb, hatches a plot to take over the world. Starring Sandra Bullock, Jon Hamm, and Michael Keaton
I tried multiple times to watch Minions without falling asleep to no avail. Aside from the ridiculousness that is the every day Minion lifestyle and oafish behavior, the plot runs thin with little at stake. My biggest gripe against this film is the fact that they have retconned the Minions’ vernacular beyond their nonsensical gibberish to include more recognizable words from Spanish and Japanese languages. The use of known words from other cultures does nothing to increase our understanding of what they’re trying to say, nor does it make their dialogue any funnier. It just comes off kind of insensitive to cultures who speak those languages. Regardless of the lackluster story and surface level villain, Minions is an adequate, mindless kids movie that you can put the little ones in front of and go about your day for 91 minutes.

Hotel Transylvania 2 (Genndy Tartakovsky) Rated PG [1h 29min] – Dracula and his friends try to bring out the monster in his half human, half vampire grandson in order to keep Mavis from leaving the hotel.Director: Stars: Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, and Kevin James
I would never in good faith endorse anything that Adam Sandler is involved with these days, but like Minions, if your kids are a fan of the first film Hotel Translyvania is here for you to set them in front of.

Begin Again (John Carney) Rated R [1h 44min] – A chance encounter between a disgraced music-business executive and a young singer-songwriter new to Manhattan turns into a promising collaboration between the two talents. Starring Keira Knightley, Mark Ruffalo, Adam Levine, and Hailee Steinfeld
Toting a pretty solid 82% on Rotten Tomatoes, with 120 fresh reviews, Begin Again is probably your best bet for the weekend. I have not seen it, but Mark Ruffalo and Kiera Knightley are a solid pairing. The premise is unique enough that Begin Again could be a solid palette cleanser between some of the big action blockbusters we’ll be receiving this summer.

Netflix and Chill Pick of the Week:
Patton Oswalt: Talking for Clapping Rated TV-MA [1h 5min] – Patton Oswalt takes the stage in San Francisco, where he talks about San Franciscans, the difficulties of being PC, fatherhood, his worst stand up experience, and the worlds most horrific Birthday Clown.Writer: Patton OswaltStar: Patton Oswalt
What better way to get your spirits high and in the mood than a good laugh? And Patton Oswalt is one of the best comedic minds out there. He’s very observant and humble, delivering a truly honest one hour set of comedy. Give yourself and your S/O a good chuckle before you chill.
