Ledger Lives On: The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus Official Trailer

imaginarium of dr. parnassus

Here we have it. Heath Ledgers last work in film in The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus. The film stars Ledger, Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell.

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus is a fantastical morality tale, set in the present day. It tells the story of Dr Parnassus and his extraordinary ‘Imaginarium’, a travelling show where members of the audience get an irresistible opportunity to choose between light and joy or darkness and gloom. Blessed with the extraordinary gift of guiding the imaginations of others, Dr Parnassus is cursed with a dark secret. Long ago he made a bet with the devil, Mr Nick, in which he won immortality. Many centuries later, on meeting his one true love, Dr Parnassus made another deal with the devil, trading his immortality for youth, on condition that when his first-born reached its 16th birthday he or she would become the property of Mr Nick. Valentina is now rapidly approaching this ‘coming of age’ milestone and Dr Parnassus is desperate to protect her from her impending fate. Mr Nick arrives to collect but, always keen to make a bet, renegotiates the wager. Now the winner of Valentina will be determined by whoever seduces the first five souls. Enlisting a series of wild, comical and compelling characters in his journey, Dr Parnassus promises his daughter’s hand in marriage to the man that helps him win. In this captivating, explosive and wonderfully imaginative race against time, Dr Parnassus must fight to save his daughter in a never-ending landscape of surreal obstacles – and undo the mistakes of his past once and for all… – IMDb

This looks like a great adventure story with tons of cool imagery and great acting. I can’t wait for this to come out to theaters.

Theta Pi 4 Lyfe, Sisterhood Forever!

hr_Sorority_Row_5

Finally! Thank God! All six sorority confession promotions for Sorority Row are online. This movie is just absolutely ridiculous. I cannot wait to see how horrible and sexy this movie will be at the same time. If this movie actually turns out to be a good horror film, well I don’t even know what I would do. I think my head would explode possibly. I think it will be entertaining to the fact that its just a fun horror slasher film with a bunch of good looking girls in it, but that’s about all. But hey, most remakes turn out to be good though……Just take a look at how the girls of Theta Pi encourage you to rush their house.

This movie comes a swinging on September 11th. Strange. When five sorority girls inadvertently cause the murder of one of their sisters in a prank gone wrong, they agree to keep the matter to themselves and never speak of it again, so they can get on with their lives. This proves easier said than done, when after graduation a mysterious killer goes after the five of them and anyone who knows their secret. This film features Briana Evigan, Rumer Willis, Audrina Patridge, Leah Pipes and Jamie Chung

Check out all the wise words of the sorority sisters after the jump. Theta Pi or Die! Betch……?

Annual Saw Blood Drive For Saw VI

With a new Saw film coming out comes another blood drive for the Red Cross. Their slogan, “Give ‘Til it Hurts.” The annual Saw Nurse is in full fashion as she shows off her amazing syringe dress. Saw VI comes to theaters October 23.

This years ad campaign was created by Ignition Print and was photographed by Co-President of Marketing Tim Palen… and it’s the wildest yet with the SAW nurse sporting a uniform you wont see at just any old doctors office. Thats because its designed by the downtown NY fashion darlings The Blonds, the corset kings who have outfitted the likes of Beyonce, Katy Perry and Rihanna.

Box Office Battlefield: ‘Julie & Julia’ and ‘G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra’

battle field

Once again it is Friday and here are the movies that are being released for the weekend of August 7, 2009:

Julie and Julia – (Amy Adams, Meryl Streep, Chris Messina) This one looks like it could be either a hit or miss. On one side you have great actors performing a unique story based on true events. On the other hand, it just looks kind of boring. This story takes a look into the lives of two women in two different times. One is Julia Child, who becomes a famous cook and the other is Julie Powell who starts a blog about cooking all of Julia Childs’ creations in a year and blogs about it. Directed by Nora Ephron (You’ve Got Mail & Sleepless in Seattle), you would think it would not disappoint, but I have hopes that it should be a good little movie that could inspire you to follow your dreams. See it/rent it.

Shorts: The Adventures of the Wishing Rock – (Jimmy Bennett, James Spader, Kat Dennings) Must be below four feet tall to enter. A story about a bunch of kids who stumble upon a “rock,” from what the trailer suggests is a small alien craft, who grants the wishes of the children and get into some adventures. This movie is just one of those little kids movies that whisk you away from reality and excite little kids imaginations. Jimmy Bennett seems to be getting a lot stardom since being in the Amityville Horror Remake, Star Trek, Orphan, and now this. For some reason this is directed by THE Robert Rodriguez (From Dusk Til Dawn, Sin City, Grindhouse), but I guess he dips his foot in the water of kids movies like Spy Kids 1-3. If you have kids this would be one to see I suppose. Rent It/Skip It

A Perfect Getaway(Milla Jovovich, Steve Zahn, Timothy Olyphant) A new horror film about a two newlywed couples on their honeymoons in Hawaii who encounter murderers who stalk and hunt them. There is a supposed twist that will shock you and the last twist I saw (Orphan) that they claimed was shocking, I was actually impressed. It looks like it could be exciting and not as bland has a slasher gory bloodfest, so it should impress. With actors like Jovovich and Zahn, it should be well played. See it.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra – (Dennis Quaid, Channing Tatum, Marlon Wayans, Sienna Miller, Rachel Nichols) The beast is out and takes over where Transformers: ROTF left off being the Hasbro toy movie of the Summer. Just what we need is another toy movie that is over the top and gaudy. Big actors, in a big explosion movie, with what looks like a weak plot. Although it could be a good origin story and something new instead of a remake or a sequel, this looks like eyes area already rolling out the door. I’d see it just to see what they did with it, but its nothing I would want to run out the door to get in line first. See it/rent it.

Cold Souls (LA/NY release) – (Paul Giamatti, Emily Watson, Dina Korzun) This looks like a unique and funny little dramedy. Paul Giamatti plays himself as an actor who is struggling with anxiety over a the production of a play. He stumbles upon a New Yorker article about a high-tech company promising to alleviate suffering by extracting souls. When the stress of the play is over he seeks to retrieve his soul back only to find out it was traded off to somewhere else in “soul-trafficking.”. Paul goes on an adventure to get back his soul to feel again. See it when it comes to your area.

Teen Comedies Shed a Tear: The Death of John Hughes

R.I.P. 1950-2009

R.I.P. 1950-2009

An end of the man, the myth and the legend, Mr. John Hughes has passed away today. Hughes has written such classic 80’s films such as Weird Science, The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Pretty In Pink, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and the screenplays for the Vacation franchise. His other classics consist of the entire Home Alone franchise, Uncle Buck, and Miracle on 34the Street screenplay. He was in the park in NYC on a walk this morning when he went into cardiac arrest. This marks a sad day for film writers everywhere who were inspired by Hughes’ classic hits. Without Hughes we probably wouldn’t have films like Superbad, American Pie, Road Trip, and beyond. His writing style will live on forever through his films and will always be remembered for the works that he has done. So shed a tear you 80’s teens who grew up on John Hughes films as you rebelled against the norm and wore paint on your overalls

Review: Moon

film review smallMoon is this summer’s hidden gem in a sea of explosions and popcorn. This film had surprises around every corner and kept you guessing. There is something not right going on in this space station and Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell) is trapped in between a moon rock and a hard place.

Review: Paper Heart

film review smallThe love movie about a documentary about love. This quirky little indy film was a delight to see and suggest you see it when it comes to theaters. This film starred and was written by Charlyne Yi (Knocked Up, the high asian girl). This movie also starred Jake M. Johnson and Michael Cera. Charlyne and Michael both use their own names as characters except for Jake who goes by Nick in the movie who plays the director.
