Hundreds of screaming fans are eagerly anticipating the Blu-ray/DVD release of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire on the March 7 midnight release. Lionsgate’s Home Entertainment has upped the ante and partnered with Walmarts across the nation to bring fans tributes from the 75th Annual Hunger Games. Cast members such as Willow Shields (Primrose Everdeen) and Lynn Cohen (Mags from District 4) from the newest movie will be visiting stores nationwide on Thursday, March 6 for the home video release. Now that The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has accumulated over $850 million in box office sales worldwide, the commercially and critically acclaimed young adult blockbuster will be making its victory tour on Blu-Ray and DVD March 7. Not only is Catching Fire the highest grossing film of 2013 domestically, but it is also the first film with a female lead to top the annual box office since The Exorcist in 1973. Kudos to Lionsgate. With Catching Fire slowly exiting theaters as the highest grossing domestic film of 2013, Lionsgate would like fans to begin thinking about The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 Redux Chapter 15 Episode 12. The studio has released the first teaser poster for the much anticipated young adult Suzanne Collins adaptation. With the events that had transpired in Catching Fire, and the introduction of this poster this early, Hunger Games fanatics will be begging for 2014 to end as Mockingjay Part 1 will be released on November 21. Soon after hitting Hall H at Comic-Con on Saturday, Lionsgate unleashed the first full-length trailer for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Even if you were at SDCC and missed the exclusive panel, this theatrical trailer is plenty enough to have you excited for the film’s release this November 22. It was only a few months ago when Lionsgate released the teaser trailer for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. It’s mysterious and gives viewers a good taste of the darker subject matter from the books by Suzanne Collins. Exactly what a teaser should be. We weren’t introduced to too many new characters aside from Plutarch Heavensbee (Philip Seymour Hoffman), but now that these Quarter Quell posters have debuted, fans of the books will be pleasantly delighted to see their favorite characters come to life. When you entitle your film Epic, be prepared to suffer the ultimate consequences if what is shown on screen does not live up to the expectations of the name. In choosing to rename the film from its original source material, a book written by William Joyce, “The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs,” the movie set itself up for disappointment before it had a chance to blossom. And although Epic is not a complete waste of time or energy, it is far from what the movie’s title implies. As the first animated picture of the summer, Epic can be commended for its effort to entertain, but fails in creating an emotionally compelling story on an epic scale. Continue reading
