Iron Man 2 Gets Some Marketing Done

Not only does Whiplash, played by Mickey Rourke, in Iron Man 2 get his own poster, but let the VIRAL MARKETING BEGIN!!! Hurray! I love viral marketing. It makes movies more interesting and fun sometimes if it allows a good build up of story and information leading to the end result which is the film. I can’t wait to see where this goes. Check out the beginning of the viral marketing at the bottom.

Opening in theaters on May 7, 2010, the Jon Favreau-directed sequel stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Jon Favreau, Rourke, Sam Rockwell, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Garry Shandling, John Slattery, Kate Mara, Clark Gregg and Olivia Munn.

Epic Purchase: Disney Buys Marvel Entertainment Inc. for $4.24 Billion

marvel_comics_1

WHAT??!?!?!?! Disney has just purchased Marvel Entertainment Inc. for a sum $4 billion dollars. This is just ridiculous. The closing price of Disney stock on Friday, August 28, their stock was $50 each, which will be distrtibuted to Marvel for their company that accumulates to the $4 billion.

According to Walt Disney Company:

“This transaction combines Marvel’s strong global brand and world-renowned library of characters including Iron Man, Spider-Man, X-Men, Captain America, Fantastic Four and Thor with Disney’s creative skills, unparalleled global portfolio of entertainment properties, and a business structure that maximizes the value of creative properties across multiple platforms and territories,” said Robert A. Iger, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company. “Ike Perlmutter and his team have done an impressive job of nurturing these properties and have created significant value. We are pleased to bring this talent and these great assets to Disney.”

Under the deal, Disney will acquire ownership of Marvel including its more than 5,000 Marvel characters. Mr. Perlmutter will oversee the Marvel properties, and will work directly with Disney’s global lines of business to build and further integrate Marvel’s properties.

From Superhero Hype:

UPDATE #1: In a conference call, the companies said that the deals for movies for characters at other studios (Spider-Man, X-Men, etc.) will stay in place under the terms set by Marvel and the other studios.

UPDATE #2: John Lasseter met with Marvel last week about a possible team-up between Marvel and Pixar and got “pretty excited, pretty fast.” They say there’s definitely an opportunity there.

UPDATE #3: The deal with Paramount Pictures to distribute “Iron Man 2,” “Thor,” “Captain America” and “The Avengers” stays in place as well, but Disney would like to self-distribute down the line. “When the time comes we’ll take a closer look at it.” It was actually stated that the deal still included five films, so that is one more film after “The Avengers.”

Had an audition for the movie Thor today. Character description was ‘pretty, but sturdy with muscle’. Damn type casting.

It’s a Wrap: Iron Man 2

jon favreau

According to Marvel.com, Iron Man 2 has wrapped up on principal photography on schedule. This 71 day shoot started on April 6th and according to the President of Marvel Studios,

“Shooting ‘Iron Man 2’ was a fantastic experience and we couldn’t be happier. Although there were many challenges in making this film, having Jon Favreau, Robert Downey, Gwyneth Paltrow and almost the entire crew from the first film back on board, allowed us to hit the ground running as everyone was instantly familiar with each other from day one,” Feige told Marvel.com. “This dynamic allowed us to get done what we needed on a day to day basis and was a big factor in why we finished slightly ahead of schedule.”

So what’s next? Will we see some cool BAMFing viral marketing? I hope so…We’ll have to wait and see until May 7, 2010, woot woot………

ScarJo and Gwenyth Suiting Up

New movie stills and photos have appeared from Entertainment Weekly of Iron Man 2. Woot woot. This is the first picture of Scarlett Johansson in the Black Widow attire. Also it would appear that Gwyneth Paltrow’s Pepper Potts might don some armor for some reason, or it could just be a shameless gimmick to get you excited about the movie. The cover also has Robert Downey Jr., Mickey Rourke and Scarlett in their costumes. Iron Man 2 is still filming and will be out next year. Click on the images to enlarge.

Here is an excerpt from the article:

“When Marvel Studios first announced the sequel, no one was sure what the movie would be about. Downey, director Jon Favreau, screenwriter Justin Theroux, and the rest of the creative team struck upon the idea of introducing two very different foes for Stark. On one side is Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell), a fast-talking weapons manufacturer who fancies himself the next Tony Stark; on the other, Vanko, who, while incarcerated in a Russian prison, creates his own battle-suit, which shoots devastating, whip-like beams. Hammer and Whiplash join forces to take down Downey’s character, Tony Stark. Rourke, for his part, wanted to instill some lightness into the role of the heavy. “I told Favreau, ‘I don’t want to just play him as a one-dimensional p—-,'” he says. “He let me have a cockatoo, who I talk to and get drunk with while I’m making my suit.”

Adding more flesh and blood to the new movie, Scarlett Johansson joined the cast as Stark’s mysterious new assistant, Natasha, who has an alter ego of her own, Black Widow. That introduction inevitably sparks romantic tension between Stark and former assistant Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), who’s been promoted to CEO of Stark Industries. “The men want it to be, like, ‘Ooh, the girls are fighting over Tony,’ but it’s not as standard as that,” says Paltrow. “There’s a weird male catfight fantasy. Downey agrees. He believes what differentiates the franchise from other superhero series can be summarized as follows: “We’re horny. Not, like, can’t-bring-your-kids horny, but just…horny.”
