Philips recently released Carl Erik Rinsch’s futuristic action thriller short film The Gift. It is about a robotic manservant who flees the police. Rinsch is not only Ridley Scott’s protege, but also a commercial director for Scott’s company RSA.
Rinsch’s name as he was originally tapped to direct a prequel/remake of Alien, but Fox got Ridley Scott to helm the project himself instead. Rinsch’s involvement, after seeing this, would have been pretty interesting to watch. Rinsch’s The Gift shows an amazing sense of imagination, visual effects artistry and composition.

According to Variety, Ridley Scott (directed the first Alien film) has been attached to direct the Alien prequel that is coming out eventually. This movie is run by 20th Century Fox and has hired the writer, Jon Spaihts (Passengers), to write the story who pitched the prequel to the studio. This prequel will be set before all four Alien films. This sequel should get some good hype as long as it sticks to its roots. We all know reboots, prequels and remakes can be done horribly, but I have a good feeling about this one.
