Spike Video Game 2012 Award Winners

2012 Spike Video Game Awards Winners

Televised video game awards earn such a niché audience. The appeal to the medium is considerably minuscule compared to film or music. For the last 10 years, Spike has attempted to draw in the masses by injecting mainstream pop culture into their own Video Game Awards show. Establishing a more interactive element, this year’s Spike VGAs brought new life to the awards show. See the full winners list after the break. Continue reading

The Nintendo Wii U is Here

Wii U Launch November 18

Wouldn’t you know it, Nintendo’s Wii U will be out onshelves this Sunday, November 18 – that’s if you can find one. Online stores such as Best Buy are completely sold out, and word of mouth tells me pre-orders in stores are fairly high. Despite it’s high price point and no real upgrade to surpass current generation systems (PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360), suprisingly Nintendo’s Wii U is on track to being a hot ticket item this holiday season. First Impressions of Nintendo’s Wii U

Nintendo Wii U First Impressions

Now that I’ve had time to recover after an exhausting field trip to the 2012 Electronic Entertainment Expo, I wanted to put in my two-cents about Nintendo’s Wii U. The revered gaming conglomerate has always been known to revolutionize the industry, but has the industry reached a peak? Could the Nintendo Wii U just be a fancy gimmick? Continue reading

My Thoughts on E3 2011 Day 1

Videogaming has always come second nature to me whether it involved sports, FPSs, RPGs, action, and all the rest. I have always been fond of the videogaming industry and this year I was able to catch all of the major announcements from Microsoft, Ubisoft, EA, and Sony today thanks to the lovely people at G4. Many big surprises and some disappointments. Mostly, I’ve found this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo is somewhat average, thus far. I don’t own a Playstation 3 or an XBOX 360, but a lot of games they showed today really made me want to buy them, but nothing huge has struck my fancy. Read on and see what I thought of today’s events.

Legendary 25th Anniversary Art for The Legend of Zelda

If you haven’t seen this incredible fan art rendering of the Nintendo classic, The Legend of Zelda, than you have been living under a rock and fail as a nerd. Created by, as he likes to call himself, Ag +, this artist has created one of the most stunning artistic displays of video game art ever created. This is most epic creation links all of the Zelda games together, no pun intended. To see the full version, because above only pictures 1/8th of the massive piece, check it out after the jump with an inclusion of a speed painting video of how it was developed!

Mario: 25 Years of Dying

DeviantArtist, TheBourgyman, has created a clever little piece of work that captures almost every single cause of death known in the Mario universe. Thwomps, Pirahna Plants, lava, quicksand, blue shells and more have all bested the super plumber in his time and can all be seen in this great graphic art. Check it out after the jump!

Epic Mario Paint Evolution of Video Game Music

Mario Paint enthusiast/composer(?), Adolfo Baez, has created an epic nine minute montage of the evolution of video game music through Mario Paint. You can check out Adolfo’s YouTube Page to see his other works. This piece took him about one or two hours a day for three weeks to get this done and is executed pretty well. Pieced together by ear, this composition of video game music is really fun and captures the essence of the original songs. All of the songs are from Nintendo games unfortunately except for one Final Fantasy song, but the video is still pretty enjoyable. Check out the little medley after the jump!

Videogame Quintet Performance

A live performance for Seattle’s Marrowstone in the City program. The music was arranged by the genius Lennart Jansson (Link) and Gen Kim(Ash Ketchum). Gen choreographed all the extra bits behind them as they play and sang the Halo theme, of course. The Tetris bit is a tribute to the old a capella group that did game themes. Lennart is playing an ocarina there, and Gen drumming the top of my violin. Hope you enjoy.

Order of performance:
The Legend of Zelda
Pokemon
Halo
Tetris
Kirby
Pong
Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario World

1st Violin – Koyo Kim (Mario)
2nd Violin – Gen Kim (Ash Ketchum)
Viola – Justine Preston (Luigi)
1st Cello – Lennart Jansson (Link)
2nd Cello – Sarah Stone (Princess Peach)
