An amazing announcement was made this past weekend as Japan, in a partnership with Adidas, revealed that their mascots for the 2014 FIFA World Cup would be Pikachu and 10 other Pokémon. Indiana Comic-Con 2014 Recap
Alas, Indiana Comic-Con has come and gone. The promoters behind the Tampa Bay Comic Con, Orlando Comic Expo, and Nashville Comic Expo were kind enough to sweep through Indianapolis, IN and bring Hoosiers a comic convention of colossal proportions. Amidst the brutal weather the Midwest has seen this winter, Indiana Comic-Con, held March 14-16, 2014, was a HUGE success, managing to sell-out completely March 15th. Last night’s 86th Annual Academy Awards, held inside the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, brought together the biggest names in cinema for the glitziest night of the year. While the excitement inside was placed on who would win Ocsar gold, all eyes were focused on the stars dressed to the nines on the red carpet prior to the big show. RIP Harold Ramis (1944-2014); Writer of Animal House, Director of Groundhog Day, and Actor in Ghostbusters
Today we lose a comedy legend, Harold Ramis, who passed away this morning at the age of 69 due to a rare autoimmune disease. Many may familiarize Harold Ramis as Egon Spengler from 1984’s Ghostbusters, but he was also a husband, father, and mentor. Ramis’ work can also be recognized behind the camera as a writer and director for films such as Analyze This, Groundhog Day, Meatballs, Caddyshack, Stripes, National Lampoon’s Vacation and Animal House. He was an incredible filmmaker with a keen eye for comedy who got his start as a Second City performer; his work will live through the ages. Continue reading
BREAKING: Philip Seymour Hoffman Found Dead in Apartment (1967–2014) [UPDATED]
News broke today that Academy Award-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, age 46, was found dead earlier this morning in his West Village apartment of Manhattan. The New York City police department are still determining the cause of death in conjunction with the medical examiner. Nothing has been confirmed, but a report from the New York Post has thrown drugs into the mix and are claiming he was discovered with a hypodermic needle in his arm. Dove has once again made us believe in ourselves with the 2014 Sundance Film Festival debut of their 7-minute short film, Selfie. This new PSA documentary asks women to see the positive value social media has in shaping the way our culture perceives beauty, rather than being afraid of it. A tip of the hat goes to Dove, they have truly become the face of positive reinforcement for women in a time when we are bombarded by Photoshopped models daily. Facebook Adds Private Messages to Instagram After Failed Snapchat Acquistion
Software updates for mobile apps can be a gift and a curse. Sometimes they may benefit the user with better features; and other times they can bog down the experience. Recently, Facebook attempted to acquire Snapchat for a low sum of $3 billion and was shot down by the picture sharing tycoons. In the wake of said incident, the social media giant has found another route to capture Snapchat’s users by integrating their own form of Snapchat within Instagram.
