Teen Comedies Shed a Tear: The Death of John Hughes

R.I.P. 1950-2009

R.I.P. 1950-2009

An end of the man, the myth and the legend, Mr. John Hughes has passed away today. Hughes has written such classic 80’s films such as Weird Science, The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Pretty In Pink, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and the screenplays for the Vacation franchise. His other classics consist of the entire Home Alone franchise, Uncle Buck, and Miracle on 34the Street screenplay. He was in the park in NYC on a walk this morning when he went into cardiac arrest. This marks a sad day for film writers everywhere who were inspired by Hughes’ classic hits. Without Hughes we probably wouldn’t have films like Superbad, American Pie, Road Trip, and beyond. His writing style will live on forever through his films and will always be remembered for the works that he has done. So shed a tear you 80’s teens who grew up on John Hughes films as you rebelled against the norm and wore paint on your overalls

Quick Notes 5

blog+scribbles

Here we go with some quick notes again. Quick Notes are articles and blips that I do not feel on typing out full news that could just be viewed in shorts because there is just not enough time in the day to possibly touch on everything in full. They are all just a bunch of random hooblah of sorts that fell into this little section of fun and goodness after the jump: Stories of Pirates 4, Transformers 3, TMNT, and more!

TRON Legacy SDCC ’09 Footage in Hi-Def

tronlegacysmall

The Tron Legacy concept footage shown at the San Diego Comic Con has now been added to Flynn Lives and can be viewed RIGHT HERE . You can view it below while it’s still on YouTube until taken down most likely, but the site is reliable. On the site is Hi-Def.

Tron Legacy is a 3D high-tech adventure set in a digital world that’s unlike anything ever captured on the big screen. Sam Flynn (Hedlund), the tech-savvy 27-year-old son of Kevin Flynn (Bridges), looks into his father’s disappearance and finds himself pulled into the same world of fierce programs and gladiatorial games where his father has been living for 25 years. Along with Kevin’s loyal confidant (Olivia Wilde), father and son embark on a life-and-death journey across a visually-stunning cyber universe that has become far more advanced and exceedingly dangerous.

Crappy Tron: Legacy Footage from SDCC

Check this out before it gets torn down from the Interweb. This was shown during San Diego Comic Con ’09. It shows some good action bike scene from the new Tron Sequel, possibly called Tron Legacy. This scene also includes Jeff Bridges from what I can tell.

Flynn’s Arcade – TRON 2 Viral Marketing Begins

Picture 2

So if you went to Comic Con you might have gotten some Flynn’s Arcade tokens. This is just the first step to the viral marketin campaign that is Tron 2. Wellllll this series of events have led people to FlynnLives.com and HomeOfTron.com. If you click on the bouncing spider on the bottom of FL you’ll get a countdown to something unknown obviously. There is also a message that read:

“Meet us at the cul de sac near the corner
of 1st and J when the numbers run out.
You’ll know who we are.”

If my math is correct tomorrow at 11:30 PM you should go to that cul de sac on 1st and J wherever that is and meet some people. Could this be another Dark Knight like campaign? Could be? I love viral marketing thought, but not too sure if I am excited for this movie………

Silly Humans, Gas is for Autobots

hr_Movie_Stills_43

So apparently a 14 year old kid has been drinking gasoline the last five years to gain “energy” to be more like his pals the Autobots the Sichuan-based West China Metropolis Daily reported yesterday. It started off light by stealing lighters from his parents grocery stall and drinking the fuel casually. After a stern scolding, he later evolved into drinking his parents gasoline from their motorcycle to become a more “valient fighter” just like Optimus Prime. They tried locking up their garage, but later found that their neighbors gas was mysteriously missing. Doctors had reported that his IQ has been dropping dramatically and he can no longer do simple math such as 7 plus 17. There is a high percentage of lead in the gas that can deter brain growth especially in the time of his physical growth development stage. He is now considered to have a mental disorder with a case of “gasoline dependence.”

Harry Potter’s Magical Beatdown

harry potter

I’ll give it props. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince reigns supreme being the largest midnight opener with $22.2 million. This beats the original records from The Dark Knight’s $18 mil and the 2nd place Revenge of the Sith‘s $17 mil. It also stomped out the largest grossing midnight box office champion of the year, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, with its $16 million. This movie could possibly destroy all domestic records with that kind of showing or perhaps just everyone showed up last night? Who knows. The domestic 5 day record is still The Dark Knight with $203.8 and in 2nd place Revenge of the Fallen with $201.3 million. Could Mr. Potter triumph over all? Go to the theaters and maybe it will happen………

Happy Birthday PG-13

PG-13 web-logo

July 1st marked the 25th birthday of the PG-13 rating. This sparked due to the big gap inbetween the PG and R ratings. Movies such as Gremlins and Poltergeist were both rated PG and it was suggest by Spielberg to fill this gap between PG and R. Just think of the ratings these days with comedies such as Pineapple Express, Tropic Thunder and Knocked Up paving the way for more adult R comedies. Videoeta has written an article on the evolution of the PG-13 rating and you can read it here.

Watchmen Deleted Beat Down

A preview of a Watchmen deleted scene for the director’s cut, which comes out in two weeks, has surfaced which shows the attack of Hollis Mason in more detail from the graphic novel. It’s pretty good and I can’t wait til the director’s cut DVD comes out. This version of the film will be about three hours long when it is released. This little deleted scene appeared on Topless Robot. WATCH IT.
