It’s a Mascot Trap: The Ackbar Story

Whether it was a trap or not, the campaign to bring one of the highest officers of the Rebel Alliance, Admiral Ackbar, to become the new mascot for the Ole Miss Rebels has been brought to an end. With this highly unbelievable tale of fanboy/girl dreams, it has come to the decision that Ackbar would not become the mascot for Ole Miss. ESPN has developed this story into a great commercial (short documentary?) to be seen by all who may have not had the chance to get the full impact of how close the south was to gaining a new mascot out of this world.

T-He: Tough Love or Cruel Truth?

Sometimes father figures can be cruel, but sometimes it’s tough love that helps us grow stronger.

I Went to the Wrong School

Anyone who attends the University of Baltimore this semester can enroll in a Zombies Studies class taught by Arnold Blumberg. Blumberg is the author of Zombiemania and has developed his class agenda around this piece of literature and works of zombie cinema throughout history. Students will be reading various books and films about the undead while focusing on more than just the works, but as well as other areas of how they effect and relate to society.

Blumberg states, “It’s relatively easy to connect the zombie to what is happening in culture. We’ll have fun with it, but we’ll also give it a serious look in different contexts, like that of American progress.”

And he also adds, “The zombie functions as an allegory for all sorts of things that play out in our country. Whether it’s the threat of communism during the Cold War or our fears about bioterrorism in 2010.”

Who needs Principles of Earth Science or The Cultural Perspective on Gender when you can study the walking dead. When the zombie outbreak occurs, only those who have studied the key characteristics of brain devouring zombies could possibly save us from the infection, or perhaps those with a heavy arsenal of guns.

Still Alive

Been busy doing other things. Sorry.

T-He: Darth Schwarzenegger

The Governator Strikes Back with someones redubbing of Star Wars using Arnold Schwarzenegger soundboards. Pretty clever I might say. From the video description:

“An earlier casting of Star Wars IV: A New Hope saw Arnold Schwarzenegger put a juvenile, jealous and rather perverted spin on Darth Vader’s explosive personality. George Lucas had second thoughts and cast James Earl Jones instead. Enjoy these exclusive clips from the “lost tapes” archives of Skywalker Ranch.”

Check out the hilarious video after the break!

Alex Pardee ‘Sucker Punch’ Character Posters

Alex Pardee, illustrator/artist, has been working with writer/director Zack Snyder with some character design posters for Sucker Punch. His bunny design is shown on the mech unit and more of his work will be seen throughout the film as well. Pardee created character posters for Comic-con, which were posted on io9.com. They are pretty vibrant in color and imagery and my assumption that there is some water color environment added to them. You can check them out after the break!

Ridiculously Visual and Stunning Sucker Punch Teaser Trailer

The first official look at Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch was released last night in the form of a teaser trailer. Snyder, the creative mind behind the adaptations of Watchmen and 300, has set his sights on his own original work of cinema for once and brings us this fantastical tale. The spice girls have nothing on these women who fight their way past anything that tries stopping them. Snyder does not hold back on the slow motion action in this movie, much like his previous works. This movie is really far out there and I hope this works for him. The trailer is really chaotic and there isn’t much said about the plot other than that these girls want to escape from the institute. From mecha robots to dragons, Sucker Punch delivers every fan boy/girls dreams wrapped up into one. I am really anticipating this movie to be nothing short of spectacular, I just hope I’m not over hyping myself. Check out the teaser trailer for Sucker Punch after the break along with 130 high-res stills!

Avengers! Assemble!

This past Saturday, July 24, at the San Diego Comic-Con, shall be marked as one of the most epic gatherings for a film collaboration in geek history. The full major cast of The Avengers appeared on stage at the end of the Marvel Studios panel with confirmation of Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk and Joss Whedon as the director. Of course we knew of Joss Whedon directing, but this is an official confirmation along with the rumors going around about Renner and Ruffalo. As you might wonder, what happened to Edward Norton? Norton will not be reprising his role due to conflicting interests of Marvel Studios, but Norton left fans a note claiming it was not as bitter as Kevin Feige made it out to be. But all things aside, check out the footage from Comic-Con of the announcements of the cast and the fanboys/girls going crazy after the break!

The Avengers comes out in the Summer of 2012!
