Movie Theaters Are Not Sports Bars: 7 Faux Pas We Must Stop at the Cinemas

Movie Theaters Are Not Sports Bars

As we approach the release of one of the most anticipated films of the year, Avengers: Age of Ultron, I am reminded of a certain unpleasantness that occurred when I saw The Avengers in 2012: people clapping and cheering during the movie. Reflecting on this unusual social behavior got me thinking about six additional theater faux pas that I assume many will come across this weekend. And before we get in line for the mega blockbuster this week, I would like to decree: a movie theater is not a sports bar. Continue reading

Now we’re not here to get all political on you, that’s not what this site is about. But we cannot turn down a good roast when the opportunity presents itself. Last night was the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, a celebration held by an organization of journalists founded in 1914 who cover the ongoings of the White House and the President of the United States.

The annual dinner began in 1920 and has been a tradition ever since – unless there has been a death in the cabinet or a political crises. This year, we’ve captured 18 of the best moments from this year’s WHCD from President Barack Obama and Saturday Night Live’s Cecily Strong. You can find the list and the complete speeches after the jump. Continue reading

Batman v Superman Teaser Screenshot Henry Cavill 1

After the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer leaked last week, it seemed as if the Warner Bros. marketing team’s plans to for audiences to see the teaser in theaters fizzled out. How likely would folks make an extra effort to see the hi-res trailer when WB uploaded it online? Minutes later, director Zack Snyder confirmed there would be extra footage for those who choose to attend the IMAX event. Well I went, and was rewarded with five additional seconds of footage, which you can read about after the break. Continue reading

Final ‘Jurassic World’ Trailer Showcases a Clever Girl [125 Screenshots]

With the summer moving in hot, Universal Pictures has unleashed one final Jurassic World trailer that leaves nothing to chance. The last trailer that debuted during the Super Bowl earlier this year gave us a further taste of the spectacle of what’s to come, whereas the first trailer focused more on the nostalgia of the franchise. What I’m seeing in the final Jurassic World trailer is conventional summer blockbuster advertising.

It isn’t enough to prey on those who adore this beloved franchise, the marketing team needs to ensure folks that there will be action, guns, death, and sexual innuendo to appease popcorn audiences. The end result leaves little to the imagination, revealing the new Indominous Rex terrorizing our puny human character who deliver as much exposition as possible in the short two and a half minutes to sell the film.

I’m still hopeful that there is more to Jurassic World than meets the eye, but I wish they hadn’t chosen to include this much eye candy in this trailer. I see Chris Pratt’s character taking on the task and ideology of both Ian Malcolm and Alan Grant. While Bryce Dallas Howard takes on more of the business side of John Hammond’s character, with boobs, who will learn the precious meaning of life and humanity.

There are still a few secrets to the story that haven’t been hinted at, such as who is Vincent D’Onofrio’s character and what is is involvement in all of this and what’s the relationship between the kids and the rest of the story? As long as everything fits organically within the movie I’ll leave happier than when I go in to see it.

Star Wars Celebration 2015 Cosplay Photo Gallery

Sadly, I could only attend one day of Star Wars Celebration this year, but I did my best to capture some of the best cosplayers from across the galaxy who converged in Anaheim, CA this past weekend. There were many great variations of Sith Lords and Boba Fetts, proving it’s good to be bad. And we’re even beginning to see the popularity of The Force Awakens grow as some took the liberty to dress up as Rey (pictured above) with what little we’ve seen from the film.

Star Wars Celebration 2015 cosplay observations:

  • I saw more Boba Fett variations then Slave Leias
  • We need more Sith Samurai combos
  • As much as I enjoy seeing traditional Star Wars cosplay, I love seeing fandom crossovers with Marvel and Disney; it’s exciting to see the creativity
  • Jedis need to start coming up with new variations of their cosplays. I know there are many kinds of Sith Lords and Boba Fett has different kinds of color variations, but come on Jedi, have more fun with it!
  • There never are any male Ewok cosplayers
  • Rey from The Force Awakens is going to be a huge cosplay idea for San Diego Comic-Con
  • Couldn’t escape Frozen, of course
  • Twi’leks are a very popular race to cosplay as
  • That Darth Maul Trooper scared the poop out of that baby
