I cannot say exactly where this short film surfaced, but all I know is that it is incredibly awesome. The original video might have come from Vimeo user, alfa primo, but it also may have come from YouTube user, burlenzi. This short film could be categorized as a dark comedy in my eyes. Boston is its own little culture in film. You can distinctly figure out if a character is from Boston within the first moment they open their mouth and the foul language and their thick accent starts pouring out. Let’s not be stereotypical here, there is more to Bostonians than just a few F-bombs and the mispronunciation of the letter ‘R’. Who are we kidding? In most Boston related movies the citizens are portrayed as their stereotypes to their full extent. Alas, being part of a geek culture risks being segregated to a more unknown territory than the rest of civilized culture. It may be my background in advertising or perhaps my long history of being obsessed with sharks when I was little, but this clever and well put together ad from BBDO just hit my funny bone the right way. BBDO is not unfamiliar with quirky and strange ads such as this one, you may recall back to the creepy Snickers lady. I think Snickers has done well for itself picking BBDO to campaign for them. Whenever I hear the title of the movie spoken within the movie I always have the urge to say, “DING!” Sometimes movie titles within the movie can be used as a great device for comedy i.e. Hot Tub Time Machine, but most of the time it is either an idea or it just references the plot in some certain way. One of my dreams has always been to be a part of a big budget motion picture as an extra. There has been one instance where I have “tried out” for a part in Transformers: Dark of the Moon and did not receive a call back. My friend, who wouldn’t have gone to the casting call unless I went, actually got casted as an extra and I am still, to this day, a bit peeved about it. C’est la vie.
But Mr. Jesse Heiman has discovered the secret to being cast as an extra and can be found in more big blockbusters than you would believe. From Old School and Van Wilder all the way to Spider-Man and Glee, Heiman has done it all with over 50 credits under his belt on his IMDb. He may be typecasted as a stereotypical nerd, but what really fascinates me is that he is in fact 32-years old while mostly being cast for roles half his age. The folks who brought you Conan The Barbarian: The Musical, Commando: The Musical, and Terminator 2: The Opera, YouTube user, Legolambs, have put together their final Arnold Schwarzenneger musical with Predator! I believe this is their best work ever and it is almost unfortunate that they claim it to be the last of the Arnold musicals. If they could take Arnold out of retirement and put together a Kindergarten Cop or Turbo Man musical, that would be awesome, but like I said, Predator: The Musical is incredible and I don’t know how they can top it.
