‘X-Men Days of Future Past’ Characters Featured on 25 Separate Empire Magazine Covers [Updated]
In an exclusive first-look, Empire Magazine will be revealing 25 different covers today – one every hour – each featuring a different character from Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past. As of 11 am, almost half of the covers have already been uploaded to the Internets in what will be a very big day for Days of Future Past. Sundance Film Festival 2014 Award Winners
Over the course of this grueling winter, movie lovers from across the globe gathered to Park City, Utah to embark on the highly acclaimed Sundance Film Festival (a dream of mine to one day attend). Many a film have left Sundance to become some of the most praised movies of years past (Fruitvale Station; The Spectacular Now; Searching for Sugarman; Blue Valentine; Winter’s Bone). And now it is Damien Chazelle’s Whiplash starring Miles Teller and JK Simmons that has shined high atop Robert Redford’s golden throne. 66th Annual Directors Guild Awards Winners
As the road to Oscar carries on, the competition for Best Picture is not keeping calm. At the 66th Annual Directors Guild of America Awards, the top honor went to Alfonso Cuarón, who has previous won at the Critics Choice and Golden Globes. 12 Years a Slave and Gravity have been neck and neck, vying for votes and smashing expectations everywhere. With this win, it would seem as though Cuarón has this one in the bag for Best Director, but I wouldn’t count Slave out of the running for Best Picture. Bring the Spark Home: ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ Releases on DVD and Blu-Ray March 7
Now that The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has accumulated over $850 million in box office sales worldwide, the commercially and critically acclaimed young adult blockbuster will be making its victory tour on Blu-Ray and DVD March 7. Not only is Catching Fire the highest grossing film of 2013 domestically, but it is also the first film with a female lead to top the annual box office since The Exorcist in 1973. Kudos to Lionsgate. Sundance 2014: Watch Dove’s Short Film ‘Seflie’; Redefining Beauty Through Social Media
Dove has once again made us believe in ourselves with the 2014 Sundance Film Festival debut of their 7-minute short film, Selfie. This new PSA documentary asks women to see the positive value social media has in shaping the way our culture perceives beauty, rather than being afraid of it. A tip of the hat goes to Dove, they have truly become the face of positive reinforcement for women in a time when we are bombarded by Photoshopped models daily. ‘Gravity’ and ’12 Years a Slave’ Make History at the PGA Awards
Notably, the PGA Awards have been looked upon as one of the best bets to determine which film would walk away with the Oscar for Best Picture. According to IndieWire.com, the PGA winner for Best Picture has matched the Oscars 17 times over the past 24 years, the last six times in fact. But with so many incredible movies in 2013 the Producers Guild of America knocked Hollywood on its ass by giving both Gravity and 12 Years a Slave Best Picture at the awards last night. Carlo Carlei’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’ Will hit DVD and Blu-Ray February 4
With only a limited release, many Shakespeare fans missed their chance to see Carlo Carlei’s remake of Romeo and Juliet on the big screen back in October 2013. Luckily for them it will be released on Blu-ray and DVD February 4th, just in time for Valentine’s Day. Starring the up and coming Douglas Booth (next in the highly anticipated Jupiter Ascending) and wonderful Hailee Steinfeld (Ender’s Game; True Grit), this new take on the Romeo and Juliet brings fresh new faces to revive the classic.
