Retro Movie Review: Paranormal Activity 2

film review

As many may know, a certain little horror franchise recently released it’s fourth film, Paranormal Activity 4. I was a huge advocate of the first film and like any ongoing franchise, a marathon of each entry is a must. Take a look back at Paranormal Activity 2 with me and see if it withstands the test of horror time or if Paranormal Activity was just  a one-time gimmick. Continue reading

Movie Review: Hypothermia

film review

October wouldn’t be complete without a good old fashioned chill down the back of the neck. I always try to discover new horror films that may become new favorites, but sometimes there are movies so horrendous they aren’t worth the film they are printed on. Hypothermia is such a film. Continue reading

In the age of digital downloads, gamers who are fans of the classics are now beginning to see many of their favorites reappear on their consoles. With an attempt to stay relevant, SNK Playmore has released a flurry of NEO GEO games onto the PlayStation Network and the Xbox Live Arcade. Downloaded from PSN, I sat down to give The Next Space a whirl. After the jump see whether or not this vertical scrolling shooter survived the test of time. Continue reading

Among the vast ocean of summer blockbuster films, there were a few unexpected titles that stood out and some that hit the mark as as predicted. After the jump you’ll find out what eight films I adored this summer. Continue reading

Retro Review: The Dark Knight

film review

When it comes to an epic film series, you may have a strong case in stating that the second film is the strongest. The Empire Strikes Back, T2: Judgement Day, X2: X-Men United, Spider-Man 2, Aliens, and The GodfatherPart 2 just to name a few. And The Dark Knight is no different. Taking a look back at the film that single-handedly put Christopher Nolan in the spotlight and paved the way for The Dark Knight Rises. After four years of its release, I review The Dark Knight. Continue reading

Retro Review: Batman Begins

film review

There is a movie that has come out this weekend, it’s kind of small, you may have heard of it before: The Dark Knight Rises. As most film junkies do, I am chronologically revisiting previous films in this trilogy so that the newest film can be watched in sequence. Thus we begin with Batman Begins. It may not have been the fuel to put The Dark Knight Rises on the radar for everyone to see, but it still has its merit for being a decently well put-together superhero origin story. But how does it hold up after seven years? Continue reading

The Best and Worst Films of 2011

The Best and Worst Movies of 2011

OK, now I know this is a LONNNNNNNNNNNNNG time coming, but I finally have gotten the stamina and motivation to complete these lists. I may be seven months late, but you know what, there’s always movies someone hasn’t seen and they are always looking for a fresh perspective. (Heck, The Artist just released to home video a week or so ago.) Some of these being hardly a year old I figure there’s still no expiration date for reviews! I still thoroughly enjoyed the movies on my “best of list.” It may be a bit more unconventional than your average film junky’s, but I think this is quite the list none-the-less.  Continue reading

Random Track Review: ‘Don’t Mess With Me’ by AJ & The Jiggawatts

AJ and The Jiggawatts Don't Mess With Me

Alright viewers, this is a new section of Turn The Right Corner where I’ll randomly find a track online and review it. There is no rhyme or reason, it’s just me either taking the latest track uploaded to hypem.com or a reader’s suggestion. (Bring on the suggestions!)

With the inaugural post of Random Track Review, we have a hot, funky one. What popped up was a great funk/soul track called “Don’t Mess With Me” by AJ & The Jiggawatts (yes, a reference to Doc Brown and Marty McFly). Who are the Jiggawatts? Find out more after the jump! Continue reading

Great Influential Music Albums of 1992

Kris Kross Jump Jump

Music of the ’90s were a powerful time. Alternative music was on the rise, Bill Clinton sexed it up on the sax, boy bands were back on the rise, and the world was introduced to Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.

With Pantera’s Vulgar Display of Power turning 20 this past week, I thought it would be appropriate to pay tribute to some other famous albums turning the big 2-0 later this year! (It’s scary to think that next year, those born in 1995 will be graduating from high school.) See my picks of some of the greatest influential albums of 1992 after the jump! Continue reading

The Best and Worst Movies of 2010

Lacking the opportunity to gain screeners or press screenings makes it slightly more difficult to fit in the time or budget to see every movie that comes out within a year. Sometimes you just have to buck up and watch a lot of damn movies; that’s what the Internet is for. With less than one week until the 83rd Annual Academy Awards, I felt that it is my duty to share with you my thoughts on last years motion pictures.

The year was 2010 and a whole lot of nothing was going on in the cinema world; there were the really good and then there were the really bad. Hardly any movies in 2010 were sub-par, but to create a list of the best was really hard to determine. So what films did I love and what films did I hate? Find out after the break to see who made my best and worst movie lists of 2010!
