The Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) announced the nominees for the 19th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards this morning. Unsurprising to many, critics actually do like some movies. The ceremony will take place live on Thursday, January 16, 2014 on The CW, hosted by Aisha Tyler. Both 12 Years a Slave and American Hustle both earned 13 nominations respectively. With awards season underway – the SAG Awards nominees were announced yesterday – this morning Aziz Ansari, Zoe Saldana, and Olivia Wilde took turns announcing the nominees for the 71st Annual Golden Globes Awards. Hosted once again by the dynamic duo of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler on January 12, 2014, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has its sights set on 12 Years a Slave and American Hustle this year. Sad news fell upon the world yesterday at the Venice Film Festival as Studio Ghibli announced the retirement of the great animated features director Hayao Miyazaki. This news came during the Studio Ghibli press conference while they were in town to promote Miyazaki’s latest, and apparently last, feature film The Wind Rises. Continue reading
