‘Gravity’ and ‘American Hustle’ Top 86th Annual Academy Awards Nominees
This morning Thor Chris Hemsworth and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences president, Cheryl Boone Isaacs, were nice enough to wake up at the butt crack of dawn to announce the nominees for the 86th Annual Academy Awards. While there were many that stood out as “duh” nominations, like American Hustle and Gravity earning ten nominations and12 Years a Slave walking away with nine, there were snubs that actually surprised me this year. The Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) announced the nominees for the 19th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards this morning. Unsurprising to many, critics actually do like some movies. With awards season underway – the SAG Awards nominees were announced yesterday – this morning Aziz Ansari, Zoe Saldana, and Olivia Wilde took turns announcing the nominees for the 71st Annual Golden Globes Awards. Hosted once again by the dynamic duo of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler on January 12, 2014, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has its sights set on 12 Years a Slave and American Hustle this year.
