Welcome to your Netflix Streaming Report for October 15, 2015. After the long week you deserve a relaxing staycation with a bowl of popcorn, a bucket of ice cream, and only your Netflix queue to judge you. This past week, Netflix Watch Instant has been kind enough to supply us with Jane the Virgin Season 1, The Lazarus Effect, Sword Art Online II, and more.

Jane the Virgin Season 1 (Jennie Snyder Urman) Rated TV-14 [43 min] – Jane is a 23 year old hard-working, religious Latina woman, whose family tradition and vow to save her virginity until marriage to a long time boyfriend and detective, is shattered when her doctor mistakenly artificially inseminates her during a checkup. And to make matters worse, the biological donor is a married man, a former playboy, and cancer survivor who is not only the new owner of the hotel where Jane works, but was also her former teenage crush. Starring Gina Rodriguez, Andrea Navedo, Yael Grobglas, Justin Baldoni, Ivonne Coll, Brett Dier, Jaime Camil, and Anthony Mendez

The CW has found a perfect harmony of drama and comedy for its young adult driven audience with Jane the Virgin. There’s a new wave of soap-y, guilty pleasure series floating around these days that get little love because of their content, when in actuality they’re fairly well done and highly addictive. It’s like Degrassi: The Next Generation for more mature audiences.

The Lazarus Effect (David Gelb) Rated PG-13 [83 min] – A group of medical students discover a way to bring dead patients back to life. Starring Olivia Wilde, Mark Duplass, Evan Peters, and Sarah Bolger

I’m only listing The Lazarus Effect because you might recognize it from its marketing efforts earlier this year when it released. And to that affect, I would advise you to avoid this movie at all costs. Even if it sparked just a minuscule amount of interest, don’t do it. This movie is basic to the nth degree, they also shortened the title of it to Lazarus, most likely to throw you off to think it’s something different.

Funny Comic-Con 2015 Cosplay Outtakes [Photo Gallery]

Just when you thought enough was enough, I’ve got a special Comic-Con 2015 cosplay outtakes photo gallery I know you will enjoy. While many photographers at SDCC prefer cosplayers to do action poses or some kind of stance in character, I like to bring a little more excitement into the mix by taking them out of character. And as much as their wonderful costumes speak to each individual’s own personality and tastes, my idea behind asking cosplayers to make a funny face or to do a silly pose is to bring a little more human element to their characters.

It’s also about letting cosplayers have more fun in their day and not having to do the same old pose. I’m not sure how it actually started, but I noticed when I began asking this of cosplayers that they were more than happy to oblige. I definitely enjoy seeing what everyone can come up with on the fly because each time is different. Certain characters such as the Survey Corps from Attack on Titan only have a few poses. Do you want to see Batman doing the same grim face or have him sticking his tongue out? Cinderella giving a stink face? No problem. Or how about Captain American taking a selfie? Asking cosplayers to do something out of the ordinary really opens the doors to their own creativity.

And that’s just my two cents. TL;DR? I want to give cosplayers the opportunity to be themselves and to have fun. That’s the point of this crazy madness of pop culture conventions, right? Make the fandom your own and have a blast doing it. I hope you enjoy the cosplay outtakes!

Sunday Comic-Con 2015 Cosplay Photo Gallery

We finally made it. The final day of San Diego Comic-Con 2015. I hope you’ve survived the marathon of lines, panels, convention center food, celebrity sightings, big surprises, various smells, and more lines. What I’ve got for you is the last day of cosplay pics of all the wonderful, spectacular, inventive, creative, and magical people I met this Sunday. And don’t you worry, this may be the last day of SDCC, but this is not the final set of coplay pics I’ve got in the works. Stay tuned for more!

Weekend reflections:

  • For those who managed to go the distance and attend all four and a half days, I applaud your energy to keep cosplaying!
  • Again, Mad Max: Fury Road costumes continued to pop up, but I was surprised with the overall lack of Attack on Titan scout regiment troops.
  • I’m also shocked that I only ran into one person in a Star Trek uniform. Where were all the Trekkies at? I may have not been paying attention enough, but I really didn’t see anyone in Trek garb other than the one in the gallery below.
  • No love for The Fantastic Four at all either. I saw two Doctor Dooms the entire weekend.
  • And where are all the Avatar/Legend of Korra fans?
  • There was also a lack in Deadpools and Doctors too!
  • Harley Quinn is the new Slave Leia; last year it was Daenerys Targaryen.
  • I wish I encountered more mashups, but I think 2015 was the year for genderbends and crossplaying.
  • I really should start watching more anime and play more video games.
  • You can’t do Bane properly unless you can do the crazy eyes, as seen below.
  • Cosplayers dressed as Septa Unella made the weekend for me. SHAME!
