Harry Potter’s Magical Beatdown

harry potter

I’ll give it props. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince reigns supreme being the largest midnight opener with $22.2 million. This beats the original records from The Dark Knight’s $18 mil and the 2nd place Revenge of the Sith‘s $17 mil. It also stomped out the largest grossing midnight box office champion of the year, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, with its $16 million. This movie could possibly destroy all domestic records with that kind of showing or perhaps just everyone showed up last night? Who knows. The domestic 5 day record is still The Dark Knight with $203.8 and in 2nd place Revenge of the Fallen with $201.3 million. Could Mr. Potter triumph over all? Go to the theaters and maybe it will happen………

Portman Gets Thor’d

natalie portman

The Natalie Portman has been confirmed by Marvel Studios to play Jane Foster as Thor’s love interest in the new movie, which comes out in May 2011. Portman will star opposite Chris Hemsworth who will play our hero Thor and Tom Hiddleston who will play the villain Loki. Kenneth Branagh (Hamlet) will direct the film.

They’re getting some big names to this Marvel Universe, Norton, Bridges, Downey Jr., Tyler, and now Ms. Portman. Who will be next?

Marvel To DC – The Ryan Reynolds Story

ryanreynolds-greenlantern-fanart-02

Hey! Didn’t you know? Ryan Reynolds has been cast as the lead, Hal Jordan/Green Lantern, for DC Comics The Green Lantern film coming out in 2011. Pretty cool huh? Director Martin Campbell (Goldeneye, Casino Royale). There is a small article source at Variety if you don’t believe me.

Will the Real Hal Jordan Please Stand Up……

reynolds-timberlake-cooper

So rumors/news/movie talks have been discussing, WHO WILL BE THE GREEN LANTERN?!?! Welllll apparently the front runners are Bradley Cooper, Ryan Reynolds and Justin Timberlake. I don’t think Reynolds should hog all the superhero glory, since he is deadpool already. Timberlake would be ok, he’d really have to beef up more and get rid of that voice. Cooper would be decent, he is seeing a lot of action lately and would be a recognizable face, but there is something dry in his acting and he’s only done comedies in big movies. I wouldn’t mind seeing a no name actor, but we’ll find out. Hopefully DC and Warner Bros. don’t produce another Superman Returns like film and create something that can stand against Thor and Captain America when they also come out in 2011. That must be the year of the superhero?

Some Bloody Piranha 3-D Pictures

Thanks to Fangoria, here are some pictures from the new Piranha 3-D movie coming out soooooon.

Empire’s Top 500 Movies Of All Time

empire 500

Here is the list thanks to Empireonline.com. This list is old, from 2008, but I just happened to come across it in my array of boredom; since I have soooooooooo much to do this summer (anyone want to offer me a job?). I tallied it up and unfortunately I have only seen 140 out of the top 500 movies. For an up and coming movie fanatic and recently partaking in this sport/hobby, I think that the number is alright? It’s 28%, so that’s not too shabby, right? That is a lot of movies. You take a look at the list and see how many you’ve seen or even heard of. I have heard of most and added some of the ones on a list for me to see. I hope by the end of the year, maybe, I’ll have the number up to 200; that’s a lot of movies.

Box Office Battlefield: ‘Bruno’ and ‘I Love You Beth Cooper’

battle field

I Love You, Beth Cooper (Hayden Panettiere, Paul Rust) Teenage high school comedy about the geeky valedictorian, Denis Cooverman, admitting his love to the high school hottie crush, Beth Cooper, during his graduation speech. This creates an array of  events that end up being the wildest night of his life. Will he get the cheerleader or just get his ass beat buy her older boyfriend? This looks like a funny movie and is directed by Chris Columbus (Home Alone, Mrs. Doubtfire and Harry Potter 1 & 2). I’d suggest go see it with a date or something. It’s a nice teen romantic comedy.

Brüno (Sacha Baron Cohen) A more than flaming Austrian goes on the hunt around the world creating havoc to find the latest fashion trends. From going on talk shows, adopting a black child, camping, and joining the army, Brüno will end up seeing a lot of lawsuits after the movie comes out most likely. This is the 3rd film under Mr. Cohen’s belt for his own created characters. It is really short, 83 minutes, and apparently shortened due to the death of Michael Jackson; I heard 70 minutes. It will be a good tear inducing laugh your ass of comedy from what it seems.

Blood: The Last Vampire (Gianna Jun, Allison Miller) I don’t know much about this film, but apparently it is about a vampire girl named Saya who is part of covert government agency that hunts and destroys demons in a post-WWII Japan, is inserted in a military school to discover which one of her classmates is a demon is disguise. I think this is a creation from an anime turned manga and now a live action film. I can’t really say more than that.

TRON 2, the Plot Thickens

tron guy-thumb

Thanks to Disney, they have revealed a somewhat of a plot synopsis of what TRON will be about when it is remade into whatever it will be. Maybe TRON guy will get a special guest cameo. We could only hope…..

“TRON is a 3D high-tech adventure set in a digital world that’s unlike anything ever captured on the big screen. Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund), the tech-savvy 27-year-old son of Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), looks into his father’s disappearance and finds himself pulled into the same world of fierce programs and gladiatorial games where his father has been living for 25 years. Along with Kevin’s loyal confidant (Olivia Wilde), father and son embark on a life-and-death journey across a visually-stunning cyber universe that has become far more advanced and exceedingly dangerous.”
