RIP Harold Ramis (1944-2014); Writer of Animal House, Director of Groundhog Day, and Actor in Ghostbusters

RIP Harold Ramis (1944-2014)

Today we lose a comedy legend, Harold Ramis, who passed away this morning at the age of 69 due to a rare autoimmune disease. Many may familiarize Harold Ramis as Egon Spengler from 1984’s Ghostbusters, but he was also a husband, father, and mentor. Ramis’ work can also be recognized behind the camera as a writer and director for films such as Analyze This, Groundhog Day, Meatballs, Caddyshack, Stripes, National Lampoon’s Vacation and Animal House. He was an incredible filmmaker with a keen eye for comedy who got his start as a Second City performer; his work will live through the ages. Continue reading

If ‘Ghostbusters’ was ‘Inception’

It’s amazing how much music can affect the scene and tone of a film or television show. This great recut Ghostbusters trailer edited by YouTube user, Rothejfunk, is a perfect example of how music can affect the mood of the source material it is representing. He has taken Hans Zimmer’s score from Christopher Nolan’s Inception and completely turned this classic Ivan Reitman 80s comedy into a full out action drama. Watch the video after the break!

T-He: Volkswagen’s “See Film Differently”

Volkswagen has more on their mind then just automobiles. VW has been seen sponsoring various film festivals these days and have been really taken with the  industry.  The See Film Differently campaign has been reignited after a few cute print ads that surfaced last year. The new campaign is focused on locations rather than cars within film. VW is calling it, “Turning the Camera On Locations,” visiting “a number of iconic film locations to see what effect the movies have had on the everyday lives of those who work there.” I love this idea. It is fun and the concept of imagining what real working people have to deal with when tourists visit must be a laugh and a headache.

Riding on the nostalgia train, Volkswagen has picked two infamous movie locations for TV spots focusing on Ghostbusters and When Harry Met Sally. You can check out the fun little videos after the break!

Crossing the Streams with Ghostbusters 3

Will Ghostbusters 3 actually happen? Three different stories from the contributing actors have surfaced and if you are looking forward to this film being made, then these might be quite misleading. Bill Murray stated last month that the film is “just a myth,” and that “all this talk is just talk.” But other cast members have shared different stories on the progress of the film.

Who You Gonna Call? Ivan Reitman!!!

It is confirmed!! Thanks to the interwebs such as FirstShowing.net, Ivan Reitman, father of Jason Reitman (Juno, Up In The Air, Thank You For Smoking), has now been confirmed to direct Ghostbusters 3! Mr. Reitman has directed such epic pieces such as the two original Ghostbusters movies as well as Kindergarten Cop and My Super Ex-Girlfriend.

This is exciting news for the geek community, especially since everyone from the original cast will be involved! Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis and Sigourney Weaver have all been announced to be in the new horror/sci-fi/comedy. Now who are going to be the newcomers to pass the torch to? Only time will tell, but Ivan Reitman is saying that filming should begin something this year and to expect a 2011 release date!
