The First STAR TREK BEYOND Teaser is Fast and Furious [72 Screenshots]

While many are thinking about a time long ago in a galaxy far, far away, another franchise among the stars has popped out of the darkness. This morning, Paramount has released their first trailer for Star Trek Beyond, the third entry of the rebooted film franchise. Only this time it is Justin Lin (Fast Five; Fast and Furious 6) who has taking the reins to direct from J.J. Abrams while he sits back as a producer.

Other than the lack of lens flares, I think just about anything will be a step above Star Trek Into Darkness and its wacky agenda to hide the fact that it is a remake of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. The Star Trek Beyond teaser is sleek, fast, and furious, something Lin knows how to manage quite well. However, this doesn’t exactly feel like a Star Trek movie. It could be that the marketing team just wants to get butts in seats by throwing shiny, fast paced action scenes at our faces, but that’s not what the franchise is entirely about. Though fun space battles have always been present, compared to the epic space opera that is Star Wars, Star Trek has been more about the discovery and science of space.

Now that doesn’t mean exploring the final frontier isn’t the goal in this film, but it makes me wonder what exactly Star Trek Beyond is about since there is a lack of plot synopsis and no real explanation as to what’s going on in this teaser. They treat this next adventure as just that, while teasing new aliens played by Sofia Boutella and Idris Elba. I’m assuming one could be Kirk’s next conquest while the other the main villain against the Enterprise crew.

Speaking of the Enterprise, it’s nice to see all of the cast return — including Chris Pine as Captain James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Zoe Saldana as Uhura, Simon Pegg as Scotty, John Cho as Sulu, Karl Urban as Bones, and Anton Yelchin as Chekov — because I rather like this crew. They’ve always been very charismatic bunch and have had great on-screen chemistry, though then can’t seem to keep a ship in tact.

What do you think of the Star Trek Beyond teaser? Tell us in the comments below and let us know if you’re excited for the next voyage of the Starship Enterprise.

Extended commentary:

  • Beastie Boys is a nice call back to the first film, but is that all Kirk listens to?
  • The planets they explore look vast and detailed, it’s a shame that a lot of it looks CGI.
  • Why is the frontier pushing back? Did the Enterprise stumble upon a star system that does not want to become a part of the Starfleet and the United Federation of Planets?

Comic-Con 2014 Celebrity Sightings and Familiar Faces

Suffice it to say that Comic-Con has turned into a long weekend for celebrities to invade San Diego. Among the lines and the chaos, you might find some Hollywood types shmoozing and boozing between panels. But if you are not able to attend fancy invite-only parties, the best chance anyone has to run into a celeb is by catching them on the showroom floor, become a member of the press, or by lucky happenstance. Check out who we bumped elbows with over the weekend, you might recognize a few. Continue reading

‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ Movie Review: A Grand Adventure that Lacks Ingenuity

Star Trek Into Darkness Movie Review

There has been much anticipation surrounding J.J. Abrams’ follow-up sequel Star Trek Into Darkness, and the mystery box has finally been opened. Star Trek Into Darkness delivers on many of the same levels its predecessor reboot had done upon its release, and it also fails in similar fashion as well. Basically, what I’m saying here is that this new Star Trek universe lacks balls, but is highly enjoyable to watch. Continue reading

An Old Face Returns in ‘American Horror Story: Asylum’ – Four More Teasers Released

What was one of the most oddball television series of last year, American Horror Story had a few aces in the hole, one of which was Frances Conroy. As Moira O’Hara, Conroy played one of the most tragic figures that I found to have the best depth out of anyone on the show. Luckily, it was recently announced that she would return to play a part in Asylum. Find out who she is playing and watch for more teasers after the jump! Continue reading

New Teasers and Behind the Scenes Images from ‘American Horror Story: Asylum’

American Horror Story Asylum Zachary Quinto

And three more makes nineteen. For exactly one month now, this ridiculous marketing campaign from American Horror Story: Asylum has bombarded audiences with teasers every single weekday. Some have been rather intriguing, others dull, and most completely pointless. But who knows, maybe a random sewing machine or someone poking themselves with a fork is vital the to the story… Either way, three new teasers arise, “Spinning,” “Exam,” and “The Woods.” Check them out along with some great behind the scenes images after the jump. ‘American Horror Story: Asylum’ Remains on the Offensive with New Teaser Trailers

American Horror Story Asylum Hellevator

Sixteen! We have now reached sixteen teaser trailers for American Horror Story: Asylum, not including the two character teasers. This madness has to be stopped! Seriously. Yes, these newest teasers, “Hellevator,” “Slipping,” and “Veiled” are a lot better than the last five, but has FX ever heard of the phrase, “too much of a good thing”? I honestly was joking about promoting a new teaser until the second season premiered, which would be over 30 teasers in all, but the creators behind the show seem to be doing just that. Oh and did I mention, we have been given a new character poster as well! Take a gander at the new teasers after the jump. Continue reading

‘American Horror Story: Asylum’ Continues the Bombardment of Teaser Trailers

American Horror Story Asylum Taste Teaser

The header picture could not describe the marketing tactics of American Horror Story: Asylumany better. They are literally stuffing it down our throats now. I originally joked and asked, rhetorically, if they would be delivering a new teaser every day until the premiere of the second season, but I didn’t think they actually would. We now have thirteen teaser trailers thus far. Watch the newest five after the jump!  Continue reading
