This morning ~~Thor~~ Chris Hemsworth and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences president, Cheryl Boone Isaacs, were nice enough to wake up at the butt crack of dawn to announce the nominees for the 86th Annual Academy Awards. While there were many that stood out as “duh” nominations, like American Hustle and Gravity earning ten nominations and12 Years a Slave walking away with nine, there were snubs that actually surprised me this year. And then there were films like Nebraska and Philomena snatching up nominations like Augustus Gloop at Willy Wonka’s factory. See the full list of nominees for the 2014 Oscars after the break. Michael Douglas Cast as Hank Pym in Marvel’s Ant-Man; Paul Rudd Confirmed as Scott Lang

In an official announcement made by Marvel Studios today, it has been confirmed that Michael Douglas (Wall Street; Basic Instinct; Traffic) will play the role of Hank Pym in Edgar Wright’s new film Ant-Man. First appearing in “Tales to Astonish” #27 in January 1962, Pym was the first to don the Ant-Man suit, as well as one of the founding members of The Avengers. Douglas will star alongside Paul Rudd (I Love You, Man; Role Models) who will play Scott Lang, another character in the Marvel Universe who has appeared as Ant-Man. Disney Eyes March 18 for ‘Frozen’ DVD and Blu-Ray Release

After hauling more than $700 million worldwide, the Disney darling is looking to bring the magic of Frozen to your living room on March 18. It’s only been a few short months since Frozen released on November 27, 2013, and fans should be excited to see all the extra goodies packed in the home video release. Disney will also be releasing the film early for those looking to purchase digitally on February 25, which seems to have become the new trend in home entertainment lately. Sony Introduces PlayStation Now at CES; GameStop Shares Fall

A great disturbance was felt in the secondhand gaming community, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. At the Consumer Electronics Show this past week, Sony announced plans to launch a new streaming game service entitled PlayStation Now, which will be powered by their recently acquired cloud-based technology company Gaikai. 66th Annual Directors Guild Awards Nominees Announced

The 66th Annual Directors Guild of America Awards nominees were announced yesterday with Gravity, Captain Phillips, 12 Years a Slave, American Hustle, and The Wolf of Wall Street each earning recognition. The DGA Awards are usually sought at as one of the biggest indicators of Oscar. Winners will be announced January 25. As we head into the weekend with the Golden Globes, the road to the Academy Awards is beginning to shape up very nicely. 66th Annual WGA Awards Nominees; 12 Years a Slave Left Out, Breaking Bad Leads the Pack

2014 Producers Guild Awards Nominees Announced

The nominees for the 25th Annual Producers Guild of America Awards were announced this week as awards season picks up after the holidays. There are only four categories for film, the big one being The Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures. Most of the films we’ve seen from other organizational honors this year have been nominated while Inside Llewyn Davis and The Butler have been left out in the cold.
