The Fate of Glenn and THE WALKING DEAD Season 6 Predictions

Before the mid-season finale of The Walking Dead next week, I’ve got a few predictions for it and the rest of Season 6. These theories are based on the direction the show is headed along with my hindsight as a reader of the comic. The following conversation is full of spoilers for the TV series and the comic. Bookmark this page and return once you’ve finished Season 6 of The Walking Dead if you’d like to participate in the conversation without being spoiled. Otherwise read at your own risk.

You’ve been warned.

The first thing I need to get off my chest, like Nicholas’ (Michael Traynor) torn body atop of Glenn’s (Steven Yeun), is that I believe our favorite pizza delivery boy is alive. In the age of Game of Thrones, where all bets are off when it comes to killing characters, ambiguous deaths have lost all weight. And we’ve been spoiled by this. When a character is about to meet their maker, we as an audience demand blood and visual closure to believe that the proclaimed decease will not in fact make any more appearances. That shot of Glenn screaming bloody murder with guts coming out near his shoulder is not proof enough that he was devoured, despite having absolutely no way out of that messy situation. It’s absolutely ludicrous to believe he could have gotten out of there alive, which makes him being alive all the more frustrating as a fan of the show. How can I stand on such firm ground to believe he is still among the living? There have been set photos with Steven Yeun caught walking around with the Alexandrians. Not a great reveal to find out the truth, but it is closure.

So how and when will Glenn make his big return? The only way Glenn could have avoided death is by crawling under the dumpster. How the walkers don’t gnaw on his face before he gets under there is beyond me. Glenn will make his big reveal back into Alexandra after the terror strikes the town – Alexandria’s walls will fall in the mid-season finale. This was hinted two weeks ago when Deanna Monroe (Tovah Feldshuh) walked by a bleeding panel. The wall has a weak point and soon the town will be flooded with the dead – this also happens in the comic.

When Glenn arrives, he’ll appear just in the nick of time to save Maggie (Lauren Cohan). This ravenous herd will be the climax of the mid-season 6 finale. It’s a big way to end, and it will continue to pile on the sadness porn, proving all their efforts to ward off the herd were in vain. We’ll have to wait until February to see how our survivors make it out alive.

Now I’m torn whether or not this next big reveal I have will happen in the mid-season finale to end on a big WTF moment or during the first episode of the second half. This reveal that I am referring to is Carl’s eye being shot out. It’s one of the most gruesome and surreal moments in the book, which would make for an epic conclusion. However, there are a lot of things that happen during this invasion that could over stuff a single episode, especially if Glenn shows up.

So what happens exactly? In the comics, during the herd invasion, Rick (Andrew Lincoln), Jessie (Alexandra Breckenridge), Carl (Chandler Riggs), and Jessie’s son Ron (Austin Abrams) are holed up inside a house. They need to make it out before they become fully trapped inside. They attempt an escape through the sea of walkers dressed to the nines in zombie guts. Unfortunately as they make their way through the undead, Ron isn’t fully covered and is grabbed by the zombies and pulls in Jessie and Carl. Jessie doesn’t let go of Carl and Rick is forced to hack her arm off. Douglas Monroe, who is still alive in the comic instead of Deanna, starts shooting wildly into the herd in an attempt to save Rick. The zombies are attracted to the gunshots and overtake Douglas. He continues to shoot wildly and ends up shooting Carl in the face.

I don’t think this will happen in the exact same way on the show. I believe Rick, Jessie, Carl, and Ron will end up in the same conundrum, but only this time Ron gets eaten. The series will keep Jessie alive in order to give Rick a love interest since Andrea is no longer with us – in the comics Andrea is still alive and they are together. Deanna will still be eaten, and maybe her son, Spencer, too, which will lead her to shoot Carl in the face. Deanna needs to die as the sacrificial goat for the Alexandrians to witness how unprepared they are to face the reality of the new world they inhabit. I’m confident this will happen in the mid-season finale or the following episode because Carl and Deanna have been building up to some kind of conclusion based on their actions.

Now, moving on to the second half of the season is when we will be introduced to the Hilltop community and Negan, who will be played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Jesus, who acts as the “Aaron” of the Hilltop who recruits and scouts, will be played by Tom Payne. He’ll be captured by Rick and interrogated before they head on up to the Hilltop to exchange weapons for food after Alexandria is in shambles. Alliances will be made and more teasing of The Saviors will continue.

We’ve already met some of Negan’s group, The Saviors, as they were searching for the unnamed guy who steals Daryl’s motorcycle. The unnamed guy has been confirmed to be Dwight, an important player in the upcoming war between the communities. More than likely, the next time we see Dwight, half of his face will be burned off due to his insubordination. Of course, Negan will become the next big bad who will be introduced in the Season 6 finale.

As a comic reader, and for those who like to Wiki the events of the comic to compare to the show, we all know what happens when we first meet Negan: Glenn’s head gets beaten in by Lucille, Negan’s barbed wire bat. I don’t think this will happen on the show. Although I do believe Glenn is alive, I don’t think his life is meant to be saved for this moment. It’s a peak moment in issue 100 of the comic, but I believe someone else will feel the wrath of Lucille. Who will it be? Morgan.

The Walking Dead has been building Morgan up to be a pacifist voice of reason against Rick and Carol’s extremist values, which is why he has to be served up to Negan. Good vs. evil. Day vs. night. It would only make sense for Morgan’s arc to end on the show by the pure embodiment of violence, an absolute psychopath who feels no remorse for his actions. Morgan’s death will be the key ingredient for Rick to find reason to call to arms. This will be the conclusion of Season 6.

Other points of interest that I believe might happen:

  • Enid will return so Carl has someone to feel close to. Sophia is still alive in the comic and Enid will carry her position on the show
  • The Wolf that Morgan is hiding in Alexandria will escape and be captured by Negan who will learn of Alexandria and Rick
  • Abraham will probably be killed in the second half of next season by a Savior, which will send Rick and crew on a mission out to find them before they encounter Negan

Jeffrey Dean Morgan Cast as Negan, THE WALKING DEAD’s Most Notorious Villain

If you’re watching The Walking Dead on AMC right now and believe that the situation Rick and the Alexandrians are in couldn’t get any worse, buckle up. It was revealed today that Jeffrey Dean Morgan has been cast as Negan (pronounced KNEE-gan), the most feared villain from comics the series is based on. Zombies will be the least of Rick’s worries as fans of The Walking Dead will soon come to find out. Looking back, The Governor will seem like a drunk frat boy who lost a game of beer pong compared to the nightmare Negan will bestow upon our group.

It has not been confirmed, but The Hollywood Reporter suggests that we’ll be introduced to the maniacal leader of “The Saviors” – his group of post-apocalyptic survivors – in the Season 6 finale. With the addition of Negan also comes “Lucille,” his barbed wire bat that has made the acquaintance of many of Rick’s group, including one major character in particular.

I’m very excited for Jeffrey Dean Morgan to play Negan. Rumors swirled around that Jon Hamm was in talks for the role, but Jeffrey Dean Morgan has more gruff features that better suit the needs of the character as well as a filmography that has dealt with such grim subject matter. Jeffrey dean Morgan is probably best known for his portrayal of The Comedian in Zack Snyder’s adaptation of The Watchmen. He has also appeared in CBS’s The Good Wife and Extant, and he will also have a small role in the upcoming Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice as Thomas Wayne, father of Bruce Wayne.

Andrew Lincoln, who plays Rick Grimes, told THR last season that he wouldn’t be surprised if fans of The Walking Dead didn’t meet Negan at some point in the not so distant future. He also goes on to say:

“What struck me, that I’ve always been excited about, is: We’re coming into the sixth season of this show. … And it’s the medieval part of The Walking Dead comic, where you realize that there are these isolated communities, but don’t really know other ones exist. But they’re all building and forming themselves with their own image. And then there’s a clash of those communities. That, to me, is really interesting and when it gets really exciting with all the action. It turns into this insane, near-apocalyptic landscape that we’ve never seen before. That is almost a reimagining and a restart for society and humanity. And that is such a rich thing to tell.”

Lincoln is not only referring to Alexandria, but also the Hilltop, a community that has been under the “protection” of The Saviors who demand half of the Hilltop’s supplies at certain times of the year. One Hilltop community member has also been cast, Jesus, played by Tom Payne (Luck; Waterloo Road; Wuthering Heights). Jesus is a key member of the Hilltop who performs similar duties as Aaron, scouting and recruiting local talent. He becomes a welcomed ally and friend to Rick down the line.

As a reader and fan of the comic, Negan will be quite the challenge to portray on the small screen. Not only is he a violent psychopath, he also seeks to liberate English language barriers one F-bomb at a time. (It’s almost too funny that the show can depict someone getting their throat slit like they did in Terminus, but will find difficulty dancing around a four letter word.)

Showrunner Scott M. Gimple also spoke to THR recently about how they seek to approach the character:

“There’s a particular story in that arc that I’m very excited for. But because we know where we’re going, we have some opportunities to play around with it and put some things in that will lead up to [Negan and Alexandria] in different ways, yet fulfill the story Robert told to the nth degree by utilizing some slightly different approaches: lineups and timelines and the whole nine yards.”

Are regular TV audiences ready for Negan or will his actions be too vicious to depict on the small screen?

The Walking Dead is currently running through the first half of Season 6. The second half typically picks back up around the second weekend of February, which falls on Valentine’s Day next year – a perfect day for red.

Das good, eh? Sí. Me gusta. Season 4 started off strong, but became aggravatingly slow in its later half. Season 5 is unrelenting. There’s never a dull moment despite a more transitional back eight episodes in the Alexandria Safe-Zone. It’s only setting up to a big premiere with Season 6 starting up October 13. And it’s going to be a really great season. Binge! Binge! Binge!

Is it too soon for Christmas movies? Yes. Is it a hilarious coincidence that this film and The Walking Dead Season 5 both appeared on Netflix streaming within the same week? Double yes.

This coming of age teen sex comedy holds a special place in my heart. It’s like what Scream did to the horror genre. American Pie was a complete revitalization for comedies and it still withstands the test of time because of how relatably hilarious it is.

This movie is pretty much a waste of effort for everyone involved. Aloha’s message is so muddled in bland storytelling that it ultimately makes vanilla sound more appealing.

LEGO Justice League: Attack of the Legion of Doom! (Rick Morales) Unrated [77 min] – Crime is on the run as the newly formed Justice League keeps Metropolis safe and this makes evil genius Lex Luthor very unhappy. Together with Black Manta, Sinestro and a gang of ruthless recruits, Lex builds his own league and declares them the Legion of Doom. With this super powered team of terror and a plan to attack the top-secret government site, Area 52, can Lex finally be on the verge of victory? Starring Troy Baker, Nolan North, Josh Keaton, Khary Payton, James Arnold Taylor, Grey Griffin, Mark Hamill, and John DiMaggio

For a fun little LEGO movie, Justice League: Attack of the Legion of Doom! is great for the kids and highly tolerable for parents. The voice acting is solid and the action is pretty entertaining. Its only faults is that the story is pretty predictable and the level of animation is straight to home video quality. Otherwise, it’s a decent sit for the short run time.

Where Hope Grows (Chris Dowling) Rated PG-13 [95 min] – A baseball player whose professional career was cut short due to his personal problems is suddenly awakened and invigorated by a young-man with Down syndrome who works at the local grocery store. Starring Kristoffer Polaha, David DeSanctis, and Danica McKellar

I’m not big on spiritual films, but Where Hope Grows is a lot better than some of the other faith-based, spoon fed dribble that’s been out in theaters lately. There is some potential for a good story here, however the third act completely derails the whole movie leaving little hope for redemption.

Two Days, One Night (Jean-Pierre Dardenne and Luc Dardenne) Rated PG-13 [95 min] – Sandra, a young Belgian mother, discovers that her workmates have opted for a significant pay bonus, in exchange for her dismissal. She has only one weekend to convince her colleagues to give up their bonuses so that she can keep her job. Starring Marion Cotillard, Fabrizio Rongione, Catherine Salée, and Batiste Sornin

I have yet to see this critically lauded film, but if you want to check Two Days, One Night before you buy it, the movie is now available on Netflix streaming.

I have not had the chance to check this film out yet. It did win the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature, so there’s that.

Television Series

The fifth season of The Walking Dead is definitely a transitional one. It starts off on a high-note, but takes a sharp turn that can really make or break fans. When the survivors arrive at their destination in the second half of the season, it’s a real testament to the writers to build such great tension with little action. It’s a great calm before the storm because, as a reader of the comic, Season 6 will be insane.

With the inclusion of Jennifer Love Hewitt to spice up the tenth season, Criminal Minds shows signs of wear. I’ve never been a fan of crime procedurals, but I thought I would check this series out to see why the series has been on television for so long. It’s pretty formulaic as most procedurals go and the main stars are holding on by a thread to muster up the energy to continue on with the same old routine.

Another series I have not had the pleasure of watching, but only this time I jumped at the chance to check it out. I am a big proponent of the other modern take of Sherlock Holmes on the BBC, so I figured I’d see how Elementary took on the subject matter. Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu may not be on the same level of Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, however they do have good chemistry, and that’s important for a Holmes-Watson relationship. The gender change is quite an interesting dynamic as well, that brings a different perspective to the dynamic duo. It’s a decent show, and from what I watched of this season it was mostly good.

The Good Wife: The Complete Sixth Season (Michelle King and Robert King) Rated TV-14 [60 min] – Alicia has been a good wife to her husband, a former state’s attorney. After a very humiliating sex and corruption scandal, he is behind bars. She must now provide for her family and returns to work as a litigator in a law firm. Starring Julianna Margulies, Chris Noth, Matthew Goode, and Josh Charles

Anytime I hear about The Good Wife people won’t shut up about it. So here I am, another series I haven’t gotten on the bandwagon for, and had the opportunity to check out. From what I’ve seen, The Good Wife has some solid tension, but begins to falter halfway through. I have not finished it yet, and hope that it turns itself around. All of the performances are top notch, and I can see why this show continues to earn nominations at the Emmys. I will go back and check out the rest of the episodes starting from Season 1 as soon as I have the time.

Sadly, I have not see this show or had the opportunity to review it. I’ve heard that this season kind of meanders and is beginning to show a lack of creativity and wit. Not good when you have a hit comedy on your hands.

Funny Comic-Con 2015 Cosplay Outtakes [Photo Gallery]

Just when you thought enough was enough, I’ve got a special Comic-Con 2015 cosplay outtakes photo gallery I know you will enjoy. While many photographers at SDCC prefer cosplayers to do action poses or some kind of stance in character, I like to bring a little more excitement into the mix by taking them out of character. And as much as their wonderful costumes speak to each individual’s own personality and tastes, my idea behind asking cosplayers to make a funny face or to do a silly pose is to bring a little more human element to their characters.

It’s also about letting cosplayers have more fun in their day and not having to do the same old pose. I’m not sure how it actually started, but I noticed when I began asking this of cosplayers that they were more than happy to oblige. I definitely enjoy seeing what everyone can come up with on the fly because each time is different. Certain characters such as the Survey Corps from Attack on Titan only have a few poses. Do you want to see Batman doing the same grim face or have him sticking his tongue out? Cinderella giving a stink face? No problem. Or how about Captain American taking a selfie? Asking cosplayers to do something out of the ordinary really opens the doors to their own creativity.

And that’s just my two cents. TL;DR? I want to give cosplayers the opportunity to be themselves and to have fun. That’s the point of this crazy madness of pop culture conventions, right? Make the fandom your own and have a blast doing it. I hope you enjoy the cosplay outtakes!

Sunday Comic-Con 2015 Cosplay Photo Gallery

We finally made it. The final day of San Diego Comic-Con 2015. I hope you’ve survived the marathon of lines, panels, convention center food, celebrity sightings, big surprises, various smells, and more lines. What I’ve got for you is the last day of cosplay pics of all the wonderful, spectacular, inventive, creative, and magical people I met this Sunday. And don’t you worry, this may be the last day of SDCC, but this is not the final set of coplay pics I’ve got in the works. Stay tuned for more!

Weekend reflections:

  • For those who managed to go the distance and attend all four and a half days, I applaud your energy to keep cosplaying!
  • Again, Mad Max: Fury Road costumes continued to pop up, but I was surprised with the overall lack of Attack on Titan scout regiment troops.
  • I’m also shocked that I only ran into one person in a Star Trek uniform. Where were all the Trekkies at? I may have not been paying attention enough, but I really didn’t see anyone in Trek garb other than the one in the gallery below.
  • No love for The Fantastic Four at all either. I saw two Doctor Dooms the entire weekend.
  • And where are all the Avatar/Legend of Korra fans?
  • There was also a lack in Deadpools and Doctors too!
  • Harley Quinn is the new Slave Leia; last year it was Daenerys Targaryen.
  • I wish I encountered more mashups, but I think 2015 was the year for genderbends and crossplaying.
  • I really should start watching more anime and play more video games.
  • You can’t do Bane properly unless you can do the crazy eyes, as seen below.
  • Cosplayers dressed as Septa Unella made the weekend for me. SHAME!

Saturday Comic-Con 2015 Cosplay Photo Gallery

Whoa, we’re half way there. Saturday marks the beginning of the end. There’s still so much to do and see, and yet you know in the back of your mind that this glorious playground of geekdom ends the following day. So I did my best to find as many unique and fun cosplayers as I could despite my busy schedule.

Two goals for the weekend were met in one day as I wanted to catch up with the Reel Guise team, who do a wonderful group cosplay of The Walking Dead, and I also wanted to stumble upon a large meetup group of a large quantity of cosplayers. #AchievementsUnlocked

Day reflections:

  • I’ve never had good timing or knowledge to know when the big cosplay meetups were happening. But this time I was lucky and caught the Game of Thrones and DC Heroes and Villains meetups. I’ll be posting those pics in a separate post because I took so many
  • I’m still surprised by the lack of Attack on Titan cosplayers!
  • Mad props to the Reel Guise folks, their similarities to the cast of The Walking Dead are uncanny
  • I’m glad I brought a notebook because there are so many first-timers who didn’t have cosplay cards
  • Who knew Splatoon was popular enough that people would want to cosplay as the characters. There’s fandoms for everything. They looked good too!
  • More Mad Max: Fury Road cosplays!

Friday Comic-Con 2015 Cosplay Photo Gallery

Let’s continue, shall we? When we last met, I shared with you all the incredible cosplayers from Preview Night and Thursday of Comic-Con 2015. We had to combine the day and a half excursion due to thinly spread costumed fans. Luckily, we didn’t have to search far on Friday to catch the many attendees dressed – or some undressed – to the nines in their favorite cosplay attire.

Disney Princesses, X-Men, DC villains, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Studio Ghibli, and The Legend of Korra fans flocked to the San Diego Convention Center to strut their stuff. And for those looking beyond the usual, there were plenty of characters that reach all fandoms. With the budding success of Mad Max: Fury Road, I was happy to see more cosplayers taking on characters from the incredible film – my review.

Day reflections:

  • The folks from Nerd Chat Cosplay rocked it again
  • There was a spot on Agent Coulson cosplayer
  • Despite being an abundance of Harley Quinns everywhere you look, they’re always so creative
  • I will never look at the Droogs from A Clockwork Orange the same again
  • Mixing bodypaint and fandom to promote your mobile app is pretty smart if used correctly, as seen below
  • It’s incredible how some people can make human versions of Pokémon cute
  • The Samus Aran I met was very well done
  • I’m shocked by the lack of Kill la Kill and Attack on Titan
  • Spider-Gwen was also a huge hit at WonderCon. They’re pretty absent at SDCC
  • It’s my Dick in a Box!

The Coolest Comic-Con 2015 Booths, Exhibits, and Experiences

So here we are again. San Diego Comic-Con. The place that makes geek wet dreams come true. I definitely was excited to get my nerd on this weekend, and I’m always looking forward to seeing what new booths, exhibits, and experiences SDCC has to offer. Suffice it to say, I was a tad underwhelmed by most of what I saw inside and out of the San Diego Convention Center.

This is my fourth year attending Comic-Con. Every year I’m always expecting something different, looking to see new things, but as far as booths go, Comic-Con 2015 seemed a bit lackluster. Most of the major booths and exhibits such as Lionsgate, Warner Bros., DC Comics, Fox, Weta Workshop, Gentle Giant, Image Comics, Marvel, Nintendo, and X-Box among others were pretty much the same as the last few years. And even exhibitors like PlayStation were completely absent. Ubisoft and a few others cut back on the scale of their booths. Even Marvel downsized from a big video screen on their booth to just a giant scrawl to promote Ant-Man.

Last year, DC Comics gave a preview of the cape and cowl that Ben Affleck’s Batman will be wearing in Batman v Superman. This year they went one level up by showcasing the costumes of

However, there were some Comic-Con 2015 booths that did impress me. It wasn’t the movie studios who were going all out, but it was TV series who were making their mark on the show floor, and even outside. As per usual, The Walking Dead booth dominated the floor with a fun experience with multiple photo ops with the undead to tease the upcoming season – they also spoiled some major plot points from the last season. MTV’s Scream and History’s Vikings had fun booth experiences to get splattered by blood and walk away with some swag.

The most comprehensive Comic-Con 2015 booths weren’t inside however, they were outside the convention center. MTV’s Scream Queens had a carnival giant drop ride and FX hosted huge experiences such as an America Horror Story: Hotel recreation and a giant Fargo snow globe. Even Adult Swim had its own area for fans to play around in with a little carnival setting for folks to play games and win prizes.

Nerd HQ changed venues this year and instead of taking over PETCO Park they inhabited three levels of the New Children’s Museum. It was closer to the convention center and had more room for activities.

These are a few stray observations I noticed that I thought I would share. Many folks are not able to make it to Comic-Con and I hope this photo gallery will at least give you a solid taste of what it is like to walk around the epic convention.
