What a year in entertainment it was! Not only was it a record breaking year for movies – 27 sequels were released in 2011 – but there has been a lot of crazy happenings in television as well. We got some great popcorn flicks – Tranformers: Dark of the Moon, X-Men: First Class, and Rise of the Planet of the Apes – we saw the final Harry Potter film, Breaking Bad season four was nucking futs, Community was put on hiatus til Spring of 2012, and we were introduced to American Horror Story.
I myself sat down to partake in the viewing of a lot of entertainment this year, but not as much as I would have liked. Again, I had tried to fulfill a year of more films to knock off my shame-list, but sadly I was overtaken with more real-world priorities and a very inconsistent work schedule. Ridley Scott is finally returning back to his sci-fi roots with next Summer’s Prometheus, written by Damon Lindelof (LOST; Cowboys & Aliens) and Jon Spaihts (The Darkest Hours) . Exactly ten years ago from the day before yesterday, the United States was introduced to Peter Jackson’s visionary experience known as The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring that begun an epic trilogy come to life only envisioned in dreams. Almost one year from now, Peter Jackson will bring to the big-screen the story that started it all, J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit. Christmas has come early as the unstoppable force that is The Dark Knight Rises debuted its first trailer today. What can only be presumed as one of the most iconic trilogies in the history of cinema will be coming to an end and this is only just the beginning. The fire rose and the Internets raged as Apple trailers wouldn’t work at the start of the launch, but fanboys found a way to the trailer as they passed out from multiple nerdgasms. Apparently I haven’t been paying too much attention to the marketing for The Hunger Games otherwise I would have known there was a viral marketing campaign to unveil the latest poster. One hundred websites were given 100 pieces to a puzzle that would reveal the newest one-sheet for The Hunger Games. Here we go again, awards season has finally gotten the ball rolling with the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards Nominations. Even though The Hollywood Foreign Press seems to dish out some of the strangest and the most WTF! nominations every year, this even is still one of the biggest award shows for entertainment. I’ve said it before AND I’LL SAY IT AGAIN, American Pie is one of my most favorite of all teen, coming of age, raunchy comedies. LOVE IT. A new poster for American Reunion has recently been released and it pays homage to the first American Pie movie poster. A brand spanking new teaser poster for The Amazing Spider-Man popped up very recently and the theme of next year’s superhero movies seem to be black and white. First The Dark Knight Rises earns a brooding dark teaser poster and now this one from Sony for Amazing Spider-Man. I gotta say it works though. You can’t deny it. This is a very well made poster with a great tagline that peaks my interest. Continue reading
