The DEADPOOL Christmas Trailer is the Gift that Keeps on Giving [124 Screenshots]

And on the 12th Day of Deadpool 20th Century Fox have given fans a new red band trailer. Jam packed full of bloody good action and that wisecracking wit the Merc with a Mouth is best known for, this Deadpool Christmas trailer has the perfect balance of naughty and nice. (If you cower in fear at the slightest word of curse or are opposed to violence, first, you probably aren’t interested in Deadpool to begin with, and second, maybe this more pansy green band trailer is what you seek.)

Expanding on what was presented in the Deadpool teaser shown earlier this year, we learn that Ajax (Ed Skrein) has kidnapped Wade Wilson’s (Ryan Reynolds) girlfriend Vanessa (Morena Baccarin). For what reason I can only assume it’s because if he has Vanessa held captive Ajax believes Deadpool will bow to his will. Of course that wouldn’t be any fun.

Touted as an origin story, Deadpool looks to favor more of a revenge tale rather than the wacky, mercenary hijinks seen in the comics – those will most likely come in a follow up sequel if this film proves successful. And for as much as I am on board for all the gloriousness that has been shown in the trailers – the mutants, humor, and self-awareness – I’m worried that the plot itself won’t be as fulfilling or original.

All of the marketing exudes confidence and suggests the filmmakers want to honor the character as best they can, which keeps me pretty optimistic. Now if only he could interact on the same playground as the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Extended Commentary:

  • I’m excited for Negasonic Teenage Warhead. Her scene at the end of the trailer better not be the only time we see her using her powers, like the bazooka scene in Kick-Ass. It would be a shame if the trailer spoiled this reveal.
  • Speaking of Kick-Ass, I’m definitely getting that vibe based on the sarcastic superhero references.
  • Colossus looks a bit cartoony, but I’m sure his effects will be more polished in the final film.
  • Gina Carano looks mighty threatening. More than usual.
  • It would be amazing if Deadpool could be in Captain America: Civil War
  • I wonder if Wade will be fully trained before he turns full Deadpool or how they’re going to explain his ability to fight.
  • It must be convenient for the marketing team, and even editing team, for Deadpool to have his mouth covered up so they can make him say whatever they want.

12 Days of Deadpool Calendar

If 20th Century Fox stays true to the character’s roots, the 12 Days of Deadpool should bear a lot of fun, hilarious and maybe even naughty little presents leading up to the new trailer. I expect we’ll see some new posters, still images, and maybe even a few viral marketing pieces. In the mean time, you can check out the previous teaser trailer here to hold you over.

The First DEADPOOL Trailer Will Make You Touch Yourself Tonight (132 Screenshots)

[If you’re a big baby and don’t want to watch the red band trailer above, you can check out the green band trailer that tones down the adult content and naughty words of curse]

As promised, the first official Deadpool trailer debuted this evening. The red band trailer premiered during Conan on TBS with an extra special TV-MA rating due to its mature content – the show is typically rated TV-14. And with all that it beholds, I can’t say it really warrants the rating to an extreme degree. The language is a tad more adult, but a few sword stabs here and there and gun shot wounds to the head with blood splatters and brains are all that separates the red from the green.

The Deadpool trailer sells the movie fairly well for a less mainstream character than The Avengers or the X-Men. Deadpool definitely feels more fresh than other superhero movies as of late though. He isn’t tied down to a team nor is he obligated to any kind of big cinematic universe; although rumblings of an X-Men crossover is clear with the appearance of Colossus. I’m sure he won’t have a big part, but they’ve left that door wide open for many more possibilities from the X-Men universe – Cable anyone?

It’s a risky movie, and I think that this first Deadpool trailer plays it very safe. I expected a little more breaking of the fourth wall like they did in the teaser for this trailer, but they kept the shenanigans of the character to a minimum. Honestly, I think T.J. Miller had some of the best lines within the whole thing.

What I’ve noticed most about the Deadpool trailer is that it gives off this Kick-Ass vibe. It’s a pretty adult superhero film, with swords, meta commentary, and goofy comedy. Kick-Ass didn’t do as well at the box office, but hopefully moviegoers will give Deadpool a shot. Ryan Reynolds is a funny guy and more recognizable than Aaron Taylor-Johnson. He’s Van Wilder for Pete’s sake.

DEADPOOL Teaser for the Teaser Trailer is Breaking Down Walls

In the movie Just Friends, a romantic comedy starring Ryan Reynold and Amy Smart, there’s a song performed by Anna Faris claiming, “Forgiveness is more than saying sorry.” With the release of the Deadpool teaser trailer for the first trailer, 20th Century Fox is doing just that. This whole project feels more like an apology than anything else. We’ll see when the full-length trailer hits tomorrow.

This is a great approach to teasers for trailers though. More often than not, marketing teams will present 15 seconds of clips with the trailer voice over guy saying “tomorrow.” By embracing the kooky nature red-and-black suited vigilante and breaking the fourth wall, the 20th Century Fox has single-handedly produced an actual teaser that doesn’t suck. Lionsgate did a pretty good job with their teasers for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1. Other marketing teams should follow suit.

Bringing in the self-awareness of Deadpool, all the while making fun of the last iteration of the character created by the same studio, it conveys a very fun and ballsy attempt to show fanboys and girls that they’re really going for it. I like the character, and this definitely gives me hope that the movie could present a lot of joyous moments that will represent the character well. On the other hand, I can see how this weirdness could scare off potential moviegoers. It’s a bonkers character, and once released, Deadpool will most likely be compared to Kick-Ass due to its violent nature and meta elements. I’m excited. Good ruck everybody else.

UPDATE: 20th Century Fox has uploaded an additional, shorter teaser to incentivize folks to go see Fantastic Four in theaters this weekend. A bold move considering the lack of hype and enthusiasm surrounding the superhero reboot. The new teaser promises that you’ll see the full Deadpool trailer on the big screen if you go. Chimichanga!

Saturday Comic-Con 2015 Cosplay Photo Gallery

Whoa, we’re half way there. Saturday marks the beginning of the end. There’s still so much to do and see, and yet you know in the back of your mind that this glorious playground of geekdom ends the following day. So I did my best to find as many unique and fun cosplayers as I could despite my busy schedule.

Two goals for the weekend were met in one day as I wanted to catch up with the Reel Guise team, who do a wonderful group cosplay of The Walking Dead, and I also wanted to stumble upon a large meetup group of a large quantity of cosplayers. #AchievementsUnlocked

Day reflections:

  • I’ve never had good timing or knowledge to know when the big cosplay meetups were happening. But this time I was lucky and caught the Game of Thrones and DC Heroes and Villains meetups. I’ll be posting those pics in a separate post because I took so many
  • I’m still surprised by the lack of Attack on Titan cosplayers!
  • Mad props to the Reel Guise folks, their similarities to the cast of The Walking Dead are uncanny
  • I’m glad I brought a notebook because there are so many first-timers who didn’t have cosplay cards
  • Who knew Splatoon was popular enough that people would want to cosplay as the characters. There’s fandoms for everything. They looked good too!
  • More Mad Max: Fury Road cosplays!

Friday Comic-Con 2015 Cosplay Photo Gallery

Let’s continue, shall we? When we last met, I shared with you all the incredible cosplayers from Preview Night and Thursday of Comic-Con 2015. We had to combine the day and a half excursion due to thinly spread costumed fans. Luckily, we didn’t have to search far on Friday to catch the many attendees dressed – or some undressed – to the nines in their favorite cosplay attire.

Disney Princesses, X-Men, DC villains, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Studio Ghibli, and The Legend of Korra fans flocked to the San Diego Convention Center to strut their stuff. And for those looking beyond the usual, there were plenty of characters that reach all fandoms. With the budding success of Mad Max: Fury Road, I was happy to see more cosplayers taking on characters from the incredible film – my review.

Day reflections:

  • The folks from Nerd Chat Cosplay rocked it again
  • There was a spot on Agent Coulson cosplayer
  • Despite being an abundance of Harley Quinns everywhere you look, they’re always so creative
  • I will never look at the Droogs from A Clockwork Orange the same again
  • Mixing bodypaint and fandom to promote your mobile app is pretty smart if used correctly, as seen below
  • It’s incredible how some people can make human versions of Pokémon cute
  • The Samus Aran I met was very well done
  • I’m shocked by the lack of Kill la Kill and Attack on Titan
  • Spider-Gwen was also a huge hit at WonderCon. They’re pretty absent at SDCC
  • It’s my Dick in a Box!

Preview Night and Thursday Comic-Con 2015 Cosplay Photo Gallery

This is the moment you’ve all been preparing for people. San Diego Comic-Con. The grandaddy of them all. The place for cosplayers from around the globe to show the world what they’ve got. Turn The Right Corner will be on the scene all SDCC weekend to capture images of cosplayers in their natural environment.

As I trekked out into the sea of people downtown San Diego, I noticed that there didn’t seem to be as many cosplayers out and about during Preview Night or on Thursday. I remained vigilant, and scoured inside and outside of the convention center to ensure we found the best cosplayers of the weekend. Although there were many awesome cosplayers, much of what I found related to X-Men, The Avengers, Batman and DC villains, and Star Wars. Of course, I was most happy to run into an incredible Mad Max: Fury Road family group. They were fantastic!

WonderCon 2015 Sunday Cosplay Photo Gallery [250+ Images!]

And on the third day, Easter Day, WonderCon cosplayers did not rest. They were not finished with their work as one final day of the con was left to explore and enjoy. There were a good handful of creative Easter Bunny/Jesus cosplay parodies roaming the Anaheim Convention Center. And like Saturday at WonderCon, from a legion of Deadpools to Warrior Disney Princesses, Sunday was also full of really inspiring fans who put in a lot of time into their costumes.

Observations that occurred:

  • I find X-23 and Psylocke to be my favorite of the X-Men cosplays I see at conventions, for reasons. Kitty Pryde is also great.
  • Cosplayers who dress up as Valka from How to Train Your Dragon 2 go all out.
  • Deadpool cosplayers ran amok more on Sunday compared to Saturday. I’m sure it had something to do with Easter, obviously…
  • We need more Fullmetal Alchemist cosplayers. C’mon people!
  • It’s always nice to see widely popular characters that no one regularly cosplays out in the wild, like Lydia from Beetlejuice or Daria.
  • Until this weekend, I never noticed how many people crossplay.
  • I saw two Negans running around on Sunday. Fans of The Walking Dead series are in for a treat that only comic readers have been privy too, and I predict we’ll see an influx of that character at cons soon – just like the Governor.
  • It was cool to meet Robert Franzese, the real Peter Griffin.
  • I’m surprised I didn’t see more appearances from Peggy Carter.
  • There were very few Doctor Who fans running around, which is quite abnormal.
  • And finally, I hope that after Star Wars Episode VII that people will find someone new to cosplay as other than Boba Fett.

And for those who are reading this for the first time and did not check out our cosplay photo gallery from Saturday at WonderCon 2015: you’ll notice a lot of cosplayers doing goofy poses or making funny, derp faces. I try to make it fun for cosplayers to breakaway from their action poses and bring in a humanizing factor to represent them as fans and people rather than just random people dressing up in costume. This series of abnormal poses has created some really fun character moments for both cosplayers and fans alike. I hope you enjoy!

WonderCon 2015 Saturday Cosplay Photo Gallery [200+ Images!]

From Attack on Titan flash mobs to wild Daleks running around the Anaheim Convention Center, cosplayers were out in full force at this year’s WonderCon. Saturday was definitely the busiest day of the con, perfect for cosplay connoisseurs to strut their stuff. Comic-Con may be the mecca for cosplayers to showoff their creativity, but don’t count out WonderCon. There were a ton of amazing cosplayers this year that were not just creative, but pretty high quality too.

Observations that occurred:

  • Her character was only announced earlier this year and already Spider-Gwen has become a widely popular character
  • There were a lot fewer Attack on Titan fans in Scout Regiment garb than I am using to seeing at cons
  • However, Kill la Kill has definitely blown up over the past year
  • Although I didn’t get any pics of them, there were quite a lot of Korras I saw running around in the distance
  • Game of Thrones and DC Comics’ characters were the most seen on Saturday, enough so that that they formed their own gatherings in the fountain plaza
  • Big Hero 6, especially Honey Lemon, has also become a very beloved character to cosplay
  • Aside from the Griff Tanen, I was surprised by the lack of Back to the Future cosplayer as it’s 2015
  • Elsa from Frozen has become the new Slave Leia
  • I didn’t see any Trekkies?
  • The Walking Dead cosplayers from Reel Guise resemble their actor counterparts too eerily close. You might recall seeing the Carol on Talking Dead if you watch it
  • And of course the Deadpools were Deadpooling

And from the images below, you’ll notice that some cosplayers are acting out of character. That’s because, either last year or the year before, I figured that as much fun as people have creating their outfits and becoming the characters they are also fans too. So to humanize the whole culture of cosplay I’ve been asking them to pose out of character in either wacky poses or making silly derp faces. This series of abnormal poses has created some really fun character moments for both cosplayers and fans alike.
